Meet Alexis Young | Wardrobe Stylist & Fashion Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say dedication! Having the motivation of pushing myself every day, no matter what the circumstance is, is an important factor. Wanting to push yourself and putting yourself out there is a big risk and most people are afraid of that. Embracing it is really important though.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a recent BFA graduate in Graphic Design with a minor in PR.now am pursuing Wardrobe Styling as well as utilizing my Graphic Design skills to create my own self-titled brand ‘Alexis Young’. I am a really big lover of fashion, and I have been for the longest time. I feel like fashion is a way of connecting with an audience of like-minded individuals and helps others gain confidence in themselves using self-expression. When I was younger, I used to make YouTube videos relating to fashion and style, and when I was 14 I just knew that this is what I wanted to do! I have had many internships and jobs in the field of fashion too. Some of them were the best experiences I could’ve had and others made me question if I for sure wanted to do this. People have different motives for why they do their careers. I knew for myself that it was more than money or material things. Over time I have met some amazing human beings that taught me how to use photography and design in fashion and I’m so grateful for them. I’m learning something new every day.

Along the way, I have learned that everything comes with trial and error, and sometimes things will get low, especially as a Creative. That is sort of the purpose of being Creative, though. Allowing the good and bad to balance each other out. Another thing I have learned is to not give up. Sometimes the lowest moments can create the best moments.

I want the world to know that, even though I’m from a small city in Alabama, I have always dreamed big for myself. If there’s nothing else I do, I want people to be inspired by my message of self-expression, and not caring what people think. Be the best in your own way and dress how you want to because no one’s gonna tell you that you can’t. I love styling people from actors, actresses, and models, to your everyday person. At the end of the day, you are going to feel your best.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Birmingham has grown a lot over the past couple of years, and there is way more to do than ever. I would first get us an Airbnb or hotel in the downtown area. Seeing the skyline and city lights at night it’s so beautiful! That whole week I would take them to some of my favorite shopping hotspots such as, ‘Magic City Merch’, ‘The Wood’ which is in Woodlawn, Alabama and possibly set up a photo shoot for her with Suburban Creative. I would also take her to ‘A Basic Shop’ which is located in downtown as well. there are too many food, places to count, but a couple of brunch spots, and my favorite hole in the wall place, ‘The Rougaroux’.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
