We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Cee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a child, I thoroughly enjoyed creating whether it was digital or physical art. I realized I could turn my passion into a career during my teenage years. At times I often feared not being accepted into sought-after positions because of my gender, race, and educational background. As a result, I started my own business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am very obsessed with connecting worlds. I love to bring the music world into the fashion world, the sports world into the film world, etc. I really enjoy helping people discover new interests through my art. Whether it is physical or digital, I want my art to be a positive, defining experience.
When I started taking my art seriously in high school, I began with things such as concept cover art and illustrations. It eventually led me to gain clients from the city and surrounding areas. It definitely wasn’t easy. For a while, I was limited. I didn’t quite know what I could pursue and how extensive the creative world was. As I began to meet those with multiple roles, I vowed never to limit myself again. The world is too huge to do such a thing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Too many options, too many.
I am a huge museum lover so we definitely have to hit up a few. In no particular order: National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Trap Music Museum, Center For Puppetry Arts, Culture Experience ATL, High Museum of Art, World of Coca-Cola, Fernbank Science Center, and list goes on,
There’s always a concert stop in Atlanta and most artists are amazing enough to bring out an Atlanta native. So without a doubt, at least one show has to be attended during that week.
For food: Loving Hut Sandy Springs, Soul Vegetarian Restaurant, Tassili’s Raw Reality Café, Slutty Vegan, Grass VBQ Joint, or even take a trip to The Municipal Market. Endless options!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I can think of but at this moment I have to highlight my big brother, Violator Allstar DJ, DJ Young Venom! I can not thank him enough for all that he has helped me with. An incredible human being and owns one of the greatest record stores in the world.
