We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Griepentrog and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When my oldest son was a baby, he was diagnosed with a rare type of epilepsy and I quit my job to care for him full time. For almost a decade, I was a stay-at-home mom, and it was such a rewarding time in my life. As my children got older, I had the urge to do something for “me”, but I knew I didn’t want to return to a traditional 9-5 job. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. And I wanted that flexibility to be able to continue to be home with my kids as much as possible.

The idea for my business actually came from social media. I came across a modern bounce house company from another state, and they were franchising. At the time, Atlanta did not have many companies offering the modern/aesthetic bounce houses, so there was definitely a hole in the market that I was eager to fill! I was intrigued and I immediately brought the idea to my husband to see what he thought. My husband was 100% supportive, but he said “Why not just start your own brand instead of franchising”? And the rest is history. Just a few weeks later, Atlanta Modern Moonwalks was born and we bought our very first bounce house.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are proud to be a 100% woman-owned and family-operated business. If you’ve ever called, messaged, or emailed us, you have spoken directly with me! My husband and I also do all the pickups and deliveries ourselves. We get to know each and every client, and are involved in every step of the rental process from start to finish. We feel this sets us apart from others and gives our clients a more personalized experience. The first two years of our business were dedicated to growth-we reinvested almost all profits to buy more bounce houses and make improvements within our company. We’ve made many mistakes along the way, but our mistakes have helped us grow and we are so thankful for the journey. The biggest thing I’ve learned about starting a business is: you don’t have to have it all figured out in order to get started. Have a plan, but be ready to pivot when necessary.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a fun question! I have to admit, I’m an OTP gal, so I don’t go into the city too often and don’t have a ton of recommendations for specific places. But if I was hosting a friend who’s never been to Atlanta, I would love to venture downtown somewhere with an awesome view of the city for dinner/drinks. And you have to catch an Atlanta sports game while you’re here! Depending on the season, a Braves, Falcons, or Hawks game is a must!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The first person I want to dedicate my shoutout to is my husband, Jacob. He was fully supportive of my business ideas from the very start. And without him, this business truly would not be where it is today. He encouraged me to start my own brand instead of franchising, which I’m so thankful for. He also does the majority of the heavy lifting and physical work for this business. These bounce houses are heavy and there’s no way I could move them without his help! He is such an asset to our team and I’m so thankful for him.

I also want to shoutout my mother and father in law, Sue & Rick, for always being willing and available to help with our kids during those late night pickups, early morning deliveries, and everything in between! It takes a village and we are so thankful for ours.
