We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Faith Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra Faith, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind success is your mind set. I had been saying for a while that I should “be further” than I am. I now know what made me feel that way. It was my me. It was my mind. It was my own disbelief in myself. I was the one who was insecure about what I had done in the past and comparing it to my future self. But you can’t take the person you used to be into the future with you. You have accept and forgive and move forward to better things. That’s the hardest and most valuable thing I’ve learned.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my business in my room in the house my mother rented from my grandparents. They moved to Pennsylvania a few months before I started middle school. I loved pink and black together at the time, so naturally my poor mother let me paint my room neon pink and accent it with black polkadot decals. I used my iPod touch constantly to play solitaire, take pictures… then I found Youtube. I spent hours watching girls like Kandee Johnson, Samantha Ravndahl, Jaclyn Hill and Blair and Elle Fowler talking about brands they loved, techniques, and their experience in the industry. Ever since I was 13 years old, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I had to claw my way through school but once I was out, I had no idea what to do. I was raised to go to college, but there isn’t a Makeup Artist degree available at University of Georgia. I wound up not qualifying for financial help and all my plans for going to college went straight out the window. So after fighting myself for a while and having a good friend of mine look me in the face and say “I Believe in You”. Then I found Industry Makeup Academy. It hasn’t been easy, but its extremely worth it. I get up every day and focus on the end goal, and that’s how I keep going. It’s gotten so much better than it was. Therefore I know it can get even better. I’ve learned countless things over the years, but the most important is to learning how to be patient with myself. It’s really hard sometimes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being from Atlanta has been really fun being that there’s so much to do here! But if I had to pick a favorite place to go in Georgia, it’d probably be Savannah. Talk about having a lot to do!! The food is awesome, the scenery is absolutely breath taking, there’s history, art, music, ghost tours and there’s cute shops everywhere! Plus you’re close to the beach if that’s your thing!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to God! I’m incredibly blessed to be where I am today. Also my mom, of course. She’s been by my side through it all and I wouldn’t be where I am without her.
