We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was tired of the “9 to 5”. I have always had to work an additional hustle to my “9 to 5” to survive. I have always been an entrepreneur and had the opportunity to learn many skills that could be utilized in diverse areas. Cleaning was something that I did as additional income as a teenager. I thought about what skills that I currently had or could increase to provide a service or products that many potential customers needed. Over time, I realized that I was making more money cleaning than I did working at my job. It didn’t take much thought process to start a business when I put my focused into a skill that I already possessed. I simply invested more time to gain knowledge about the industry and utilize a skill or service that many people did not like to do themselves. I knew that I had to attract customers and actually deliver upon being given an opportunity. I started with family and friends of family to get build knowledge and skill. Eventually, I legally established my business and here we are.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I did not know a thing about running a cleaning business. I had to learn by trial and error. There is a big difference between cleaning for your family and friends versus cleaning for paying customers. I was willing to listen to constructive criticism and feedback. This drove me to research and understand how the cleaning industry operated. I invested time and willingness to train myself to provide immaculate cleanings. I overcame my challenges by conquering them. I have learned that putting your best effort first and going overboard providing services will get you more customers. I work hard and I am always willing to learn. Another thing, I am from the “South”, born and raised! I am proud of my southern hospitality roots and how I was raised. My business puts customer service and experience first! I find establishing rapport with my clients versus transaction-based relationships is more beneficial. Customers are willing to grow with you but you must demonstrate the desire to grow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here in Atlanta, there are many things to do! You can literally come with no itinerary and explore. It totally depends on the desires of my company. Atlanta has many restaurants, bars, lounges, and nightclubs. Many people travel here to taste the variety of foods, check out the diversity of the city and visit some of the swankiest spots in Atlanta. I definitely would include some of my favorite places to eat. I love soul food. Two of my favorite places are Big Daddy’s Restaurant located on Old National Highway and Annie Laura’s Soul Food in Riverdale. I would also take my friends to landmark sites such as The Georgia Aquarium and Martin Luther King childhood home off Auburn Ave. I am also a person that simply likes to give my company a tour of the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, the only people that deserve credit are my clients and potential customers. These people allow me the opportunity to demonstrate and utilize my skills, They support me through continuous business and referrals to potential customers.
