Meet Alex Hosea | Skin Care and House warming extraordinaire

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Hosea and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business itself all started with the making of soap back in 2020. As we all know, a lot of basic products and necessities were scarce and most of us couldn’t find a thing. I contracted COVID-19 during that time, and was confined to the house for a grueling 14 days. After the first four days I felt better but couldn’t go back to work or out in the world with risk of spreading something that was seen as the unknown, so I did like most bored people and went to YouTube. I saw an add for body products and thought “I could do that, even remove some for the harmful items within it.” And this that was the beginning of my soap making which has now branched me over into the world of bath bombs, sugar scrubs, candles, and soon to come much more.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It took a long time to build the clientele aspect up and to be able to be confident enough to go out and be open about what things I sell. It took even longer to be confident and set the prices for what I have just based off of the quality, amount of work put in it, and the lack of preservatives that are in each item I create. It was not easy and there are so many people doing similar things as I am. At the end of it all, you just have to show what makes your brand different, special, and even a little weird compared to others. For my brand, Glowing Radiance Products, we are about the people we sell to. They are not just another number. We know your name, your favorite scents, we care about what skin condition you may have and we want to help better not only your lives, but each aspect in numerous ways if we can.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m here in Birmingham, Al where everyone thinks there is nothing to do but in a week we would start with breakfast at Another Broken Egg, those mimosas are to die for. Next we would venture out on a hike to oak mountain state park and spend time in the woods loving nature. Then I would suggest dinner at shu shop, my fave ramen place in the world. And overall we would game and just have fun. But each day we would go somewhere new for breakfast from ihop, to Waffle House, to big bad breakfast, then for lunches we can go to sushi places such as sushi village 280, go out to new China town for Chinese, get some food from Mi Pueblo and cook it for some lunches, and then spend time in downtown gorging at Texas de Brazil, Al’s Deli, even some of the bars like Casanova, or 3000 bar, just to get out and about. But my fave place of all, I would love to take them to Vulcan so we can look out over the city, see how beautiful it is, how much we have to offer, and that we aren’t just remnants of the past, we have a bright future.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would honestly like to thank everyone I have ever worked with, dated, become friends with, all of them. Without most of these people, specifically on the co worker end, I would never have had an actually audience to provide me with a niche for my business; health care workers.
