We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex & Domonique Bouldrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex & Domonique, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We set out to bottle our signature Rib Rub recipe and create a first-generation, family-owned spice business that used our last name as a part of the company name “BOûLD” comes from “Bouldrick”. Alex has never really liked the size of traditional spice jars because they always felt small in his hands when seasoning large proteins like a rack of ribs. Domonique wasn’t a fan of how often traditional spice jar shaker holes clogged when trying to distribute the product. So in deciding how to bottle our recipe that we’ve honed over the past 8 years we set out to change those two things with our product packaging. The biggest inspiration for the BOûLD look of our branding and spice jar came from the beer industry, more specifically the vivid, bright, story-telling IPA beer can artwork (check it out next time you are in the grocery store). Our spice jar is big with large shaker holes that ensure proper distribution every time and a bright vividly colored label to embody our personalities and stand out from anything else on your spice shelf!

Our packaging had to be as BOûLD as our Flavors! We knew that from the beginning…

What should our readers know about your business?
We make BOûLD Ass Rubs for BOûLD Ass TasteBûDS, We combine simple ingredients to create savory flavors that finish with a satisfying kick. At BOûLD Ass Seasoning Co. we believe healthy, unique flavors are essential for bringing food to life! Our hand-crafted rubs are low in sodium but not in flavor!

Domonique created the first batch of rub created in 2013 aimed at creating rub for ribs that wouldn’t need any sauce once grilled to perfection on pork or beef ribs by Alex who used his over 15 years of grilling experience to bring the recipe to life.

What we are most proud of is the one thing that has surprised us the most, which is how versatile our “Rib Rub” has proven to be. Our current customers rave about using it everything from burgers, salmon, chicken, shrimp, veggies with a little balsamic, and get this it’s even great on avocado toast!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re ever in town to visit the Bouldrick’s a visit will always include a few of our favorite city spots, and food stops. It’s not a trip to the ATL without taking a trip to the Beltline where we can walk, scooter, or eat our way down the beltline to our second favorite stop Ponce City Market (PCM). While here we can shop, support local black businesses, and continue to eat until we’re stuffed on the large variety of foods PCM has to offer in their food hall. Before we head home we will make a quick pit stop at our favorite Black-Owned liquor store Prohibition Liquor (@prohibitionliquor) to pick up libations for the evening. The next day starts with a nice breakfast, later followed by us cooking one of our 3 favorite meals in rotation – BBQ Ribs, Cedar Plank Steelhead trout, some great sides, and good drinks

– Crab Boil complete with eggs and butter sauce
– Our new favorite BOûLD Ass Birria Tacos they are a hit with all our friends & family.

Most times you will find us at a local market, bbq competitions, or at home…but if we aren’t, we’re usually on some outdoor adventure, or traveling to an outdoor adventure such as our shared favorite which is snowboarding which we’ve been doing together for over 8 years.
