We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex and Ricky Camardelle-Floyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex and Ricky, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Working full-time jobs along with creating content is an ongoing battle for us. When we first started off, it seemed difficult at first, but now that we’ve been doing it for a while now, we have created a routine that works for us. It allows us to set away time to pour into our separate jobs, creating content, and each other.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, Ricky is a nurse educator and clinical instructor for Wellstar Hospital and Alex is the Vice President of Policy and Research for the Atlanta Wealth Building Initiative.

Our story started about 14 years ago when we first met through a mutual friend. Alex expressed interest in Ricky first, and from there, we connected during a time of massive transition as young adults not fully out the closet at the time. With long distance, school, and career moves as young adults, friction naturally occurred in the early years, but we made the decision to commit to each other that we have yet to regret.

Growing up in the world of social media, we noticed there were not many black gay couples shown in a positive light. OurBoyStory (OBS) was created to fill that void we saw. What we intended to create with OBS was a lifestyle page where people could see black gay men loving each other.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re big foodies and enjoy a nice vibe, so we love taking our friends to restaurants that offer both. Our current favorites are King & Duke if you’re into good burgers and MF Sushi for amazing Japanese cuisine.

We also love to host and cook. Whenever it gets chilly outside, Alex makes his famous gumbo while Ricky will be frying fish, and we invite our friends over for food, handcrafted cocktails, and an all-around good time.

When it’s warm out, we like to have picnics in Piedmont Park. We’ll bring beverages, snacks, blankets, and our speaker, and meet up with our friends to fellowship and enjoy each other’s company.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We wouldn’t be where we are today without the love and support from our families and close friends. What started off as a simple Instagram page to where we are now is because of them.
