We had the good fortune of connecting with Alessio Lacco Sofia Arango and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alessio Lacco, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Alessio, our chef and cofunder, has been making pizzas for almost 15 years. When he arrived to Atlanta, back in 2017, he realized there was a great potential in the private catering business. He started to develop the idea of his first truck (a blue Piaggio ApeCar 1982 converted into a pizza truck) in 2018 and finalized the purchase and shipping in 2019. Alessio wanted to bring a little taste of Italy to the city of Atlanta, something that reminded him of being home. From carefully developing the perfect pizza dough recipe, to choosing the best gas and wood fired ovens to cook the product, the ultimate goal is making the experience as authentic as possible.

What should our readers know about your business?
Atlanta Pizza Truck is a local catering company that specializes in the making of fresh Neapolitan pizzas and a variety of other Italian dishes, such as appetizers, salad, and desserts. We have different ovens that can adapt to any party size and needs, all of them offering fresh making of authentic Neapolitan pizzas cooked right in the spot (90 seconds or less). Our main unit, a blue Piaggio ApeCar 1982 converted into a pizza truck, is the only one of its kind in the US.
We offer a very efficient and fast service, in our bigger units we can make up to 80 pizzas per hour. and our smaller ones up to 45 pizzas. We are flexible and can work in smaller setups than normally sized food trucks.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would go to Ponce City market to get donuts at Five daughter’s Bakery when we wake up. We will walk (or probably take a rental scooter) through the belt line and visit Krog Street Market. For a light late lunch, we will stop at Inman Park and get some tapas at Barcelona wine bar. We will walk through Memorial park in downtown and later get dinner at Pricci.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There has been a lot of great people and companies that had make our dream to become possible. We would like to send a shoutout to Carmelina Brands, Gi Metal USA, Forza Forni, Paolo’s Gelato, Taste of Italy Old Hwy 5, and Mike Rezi Nissan for their continued support to our company.
