We had the good fortune of connecting with Alesia Blizzard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alesia, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life balance is always evolving. But recently developing a system not only for my business but for my family has been my new work in progress. Things operate smoother with a system. I haven’t perfected it yet but I see great improvements with the subtle changes I have made and I’m hopeful that it is up from here !

What should our readers know about your business?
My Business Lisa’s Plate LLC is a Catering and Nutrition Education Service. Dedicated to giving our guest a one of a kind experience. Lisa’s Plate ALWAYS aims to exceed our customers expectations through creating a whole experience through food. I am very thankful to be led by God to use my life and experiences with Food to help people learn about improving their health, expanding their palette and Becoming inspired to cook and garden at home. The early stages of the pandemic heightened the rising success of my small business. While I am thankful for the growth and the success becoming a full time business owner is by far the hardest thing I have taken on. If I can give one piece of advice to any one looking to work for themselves please remember that Discipline is a decision and motivation is scarce. You have to be disciplined enough to do what needs to be done with or without the motivation to do so.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the 757 on the peninsula there are a few places I enjoy in my down time when my schedule permits. Brunch at Mango Mangeux In downtown Phoebus. A nice three course lunch or dinner at Fin Seafood in the Port Warwick area of Newport News. And occasional night out at Noir in Phoebus as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents are definitely the MVPs of my story. Seeing my vision after watching me work hard and not really understanding but believing in me any way and supporting me is definitely one of the most amazing things I’ve ever experienced. I hope to be as encouraging as my parents have become. Their growth as supporters is really amazing to see. And also my community of sister in business Eta Eta Lambda Society. With out the constant support of women who uplift me and understand exactly where in coming from from smiles to struggles I always have had support. Forever thankful for you ladies !
