We had the good fortune of connecting with Alec Coutinho and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alec, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
While being the most important, I think this is also the hardest: finding the right circle to surround yourself with.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are all individually unique, but what something I take pride in is my affinity for colors and composition. I really enjoy being able to capture content as how I see it in my head. It’s so rewarding when you get the exact look you have in your head.

Getting to where I am today… No, not easy at all & in many ways still trying to get where I want to be. I think the most efficient way to overcome those hurdles is to really take note on what you could have done better in every aspect. The best part about it is once you see it professionally, you can apply it in every part of life. One really important lesson I have learned so far though is that if there is an opportunity to learn, take it. Those things don’t come often and when you find them or they find you, definitely do not take it for granted.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I have someone in town it’s always spontaneous and never planned, it’s what keeps it fun. But if I had to plan a day for someone this is what I could look like:

To start off a Saturday, I would take my guests to Muchacho in Cabbage Town. One of my favorite spaces in Atlanta for a bite, coffee, or drink. Lunch, would consist of a Beltline tour from Muchacho headed towards Piedmont Park, and then wrap up the day with dinner at Delbar. If we’re really feeling funky I’ll take them to MidCity ATL where we can have ourselves a night of dancing to house music and a cocktail or two.

At some point I would definitely hit up Llyod’s for a good slice of pizza. Coming from a North Easterner, I’d say either them or Glide have the best slice in ATL but taste is subjective!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents first for sure, they were extremely supportive and accepting of my choice to go freelance when I left my corporate job.

JF Musial, founder/CEO of Tangent Vector and Ashton Stan are huge inspirations to me professionally. Whenever I have one of those first time scenarios they are always the ones I hit up first bombarding with questions.
