Meet Albert Hayes | CEO of OVERTURNED Apparel

We had the good fortune of connecting with Albert Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Albert, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for the business when Roe V. Wade was overturned, and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was looking at other groups to remove human rights! With that we decided to use fashion as the way to promote positivity in a world full of negativity! So, we decided to give $4 of every order to organizations that support people.
We intend to give back to organizations such as:
– Human Rights Campaign
– Planned Parenthood
– The NAACP

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart is our give back mission. We aren’t just giving back to one demographic of people. We are giving back to BIPOC, Women and LGBTQIA+ organizations who provide resources to these communities. What I am most proud of is our resilience. We have worked really hard to get our brand out there, and we haven’t seen much from it yet, but we keep pushing because our mission is what drives us. It has been really hard to get here. Learning so many new aspects to business that you don’t learn from corporate America has been a shock! We have gotten this place from watching huge amounts of Shark Tank, but also being in corporate America with a combined 10+ years.
It has not been easy to get to this point. We overcome the challenges by constantly reminding ourselves that OVERTURNED Apparel isn’t about us as owners. This is about ensuring that we can give back as much positivity as much as possible!
Along the way we have learned that we have to work and learn as much as possible, and be willing to wear as many hats as possible!
What I want the world to understand about OVERTURNED Apparel, is that we are a brand that gives back to you!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would bring someone to Houston, TX and we would spend a lot of time downtown, Montrose and Midtown. There are plenty of restaurants that I would take them to Xochi, Joey Uptown, Measures and Weights etc. We would also look at going to some of the local bars so we can see drag shows and support local businesses.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My business partner deserves to be shouted out. He has worked really hard, and made sacrifices to ensure that this business comes into fruition and our mission is being fully understood by everyone. He has been such a huge support system in branding OVERTURNED Apparel, establishing relationships and partnerships.
