We had the good fortune of connecting with Alarie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ALARIE, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
We are ALARIE, Arielle & Alanna Brown, hailing from the Washington, DC metro area. Our upbringing and background have played a significant role in shaping us into the artists we are today. Growing up in church, with our grandfather and uncles as pastors and our mother as a piano teacher, we were surrounded by gospel music from an early age. We were both trained in classical and gospel music, singing in church choirs and performing with the Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel. We have had the opportunity to perform in many different places, such as the Kennedy Center, the Washington National Cathedral, and several embassies. We have performed with notable artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Bebe Winans, and Sweet Honey and the Rock.

Music has been a part of us since we could talk, but we truly started singing together around the ages of 6 and 7. Over the years, our love for music grew, and in 2022, we began writing songs together. This journey led to the release of our first single, THE
MOTIVE, in September 2023. Since then, we have performed our original music in various venues in Los Angeles, Washington, DC and Atlanta.
Our experiences, both in church and beyond, have deeply influenced our artistry, allowing us to merge our gospel roots with a unique, evolving sound that continues to shape our musical journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our music is a blend of our gospel roots, and modern influences, creating a sound that is soulful, dynamic, and powerful. What sets us apart is our ability to seamlessly fuse rich harmonies with heartfelt storytelling from life experiences, bringing authenticity and depth to every song we create.

One of the things we’re most proud of is taking the leap to start writing our own music in 2022 and releasing our first single in September 2023. It was a major milestone for us, and we’re so excited about what’s to come.

Getting to where we are today has been everything but easy. The music industry is full of challenges, from finding our unique voice to navigating the ups and downs of being independent artists. But, we’ve learned that faith in God, persistence, and staying true to ourselves is key. We’ve overcome obstacles by leaning on each other, trusting the process, and surrounding ourselves with people who believe in us.

One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is that timing is everything! Growth takes patience, and every step—big or small—matters. We want the world to know that our music is rooted in passion, authenticity, and purpose. Our goal is to inspire, uplift, and connect with people through our art, and we’re just getting started!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’re still exploring Atlanta for ourselves, but if our friends were visiting, we’d start with brunch at Garden Parc, enjoy their live band while eating the best unlimited spread. Then we’d explore Ponce City Market, grab coffee at Urban Grind, and go thrifting in Little Five Points. We’d hit up Andretti’s, Main Event, or Round1 Bowling for some activities, then grab dinner at Little Alley Steakhouse, or Rreal Tacos. Of course, we’d make time to hit the gym and stay active. We’d wrap up the trip by taking in the best views of the city at the SkyLounge.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely! Our journey wouldn’t be possible without the love and support of so many incredible people. Thanking God, first and foremost. We also want to shout out our amazing parents for believing in us from the start and always encouraging our musical dreams.

We’re also grateful for our friends and family, whose constant support means everything. A huge thank you to Owen Dexter-Meldrum, Cristian Williams, and Bravo Ocean Studio for their support and creative guidance in helping us bring our vision to life through our music. We also want to thank the Washington Performing Arts choir for shaping us as vocalists and performers. We truly wouldn’t be here without all of these amazing people!
