We had the good fortune of connecting with Akilah Chance and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Akilah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks allows you to challenge yourself, it also tests your faith and determination. The thrill of taking a logical risk is exciting especially when you succeed. Not everyone who takes risks are strong enough to keep going and may give up when so close to succeeding. Leaving the clinical side of the healthcare field was something I never thought I’d do. Covid hit and changed our lives tremendously. I took on working for myself and my brand full-time. This is a risk I will make over and over again. Taking risks has put my in a position to meet many wonderful people and join partnerships to become a better entrepreneur and to develop and bring out talents in myself I didn’t quite know that I had. I now have more time to focus on my family and my creative side for expansion in the future.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Although I left the clinical setting from the healthcare field, I now work doing administrative duties from home. Working from home has allowed me to also put a hefty amount of extra time into my business. I think my drive and determination is what sets me apart from others. When I get a new goal, I won’t stop until it is accomplished. Not only do I work full time in health care and for my candle making business, I am also finishing up my last year in college, along with being a wife and mom of 2 handsome little boys. My journey has not been a cakewalk but I have paced myself and rerouted my plans accordingly when faced with challenges I’ve had to overcome. Along the way I’ve learned that no matter what, you have got to keep on going. Obstacles will come, but you can’t let those obstacles stop you. A fun fact about my brand that no one may know is when I first launched my business on September 22nd of 2020, 11 days prior to that I’d just given birth to my son Karson “Grey” and we’ve been set in motion ever since. One of my proudest moments.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my family and friends for being some of my first customers and supporting me since the first day that I started making candles. I have taken all of the feedback and incorporated those reviews into the growth that I now have in Grey Candle Company today. All of the shoutouts that I receive and the word of mouth recommendations that you all have given out has honestly been appreciated and now it’s my time to shout you all out.
