We had the good fortune of connecting with Akenah Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Akenah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process about starting my own business was to serve lovers of sweets and treats , event planners , party throwers and worldwide customers who enjoy decorative, delicious desserts.

What should our readers know about your business?
Stormy Sweet Creations intend to serve lovers of sweets and treats, event planners, party throwers and worldwide customers who enjoy decorative, delicious desserts. Stormy Sweet Creations is one of a kind with an unique name like itself. My business is extraordinary because it is where custom treats are created and where we provide one-stop shop services. A customer can purchase their sweets for an event and can also experience personalized services such as decoration labels , treat tables, and customized back drops. Although it was not easy, I am where I am today because of countless amounts of networking , endless promoting and dedication from my loyal supporters. The lessons I have learned along the way is that everything new is a trial and error experience , and you have to be willing to find what works best for you. Be open to learn new approaches and add your own spice to things to make your business different from others, whether it’s experimenting with new recipes or creating new type of designs for your product. I want the world to know that my treats are 100% homemade and I am a firm believer in providing excellent customer service. I am a product of my community and I tend to continue to create sweets for my community and beyond. #BlackOwned

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is full of great places to eat, drink, visit , and hang out. It’s so much more that I am still discovering in my own hometown. For starters, I would first let my best friend meet my intermediate family whom been in Atlanta since they were kids. They would be able to share stories and historical facts during their time. After my bestfriend visit my family, I would want to take them to Mary Mac’s Tea Room, one of my favorite restaurants in town where you can definitely get that real southern soul food. Some places I would want to hang out with my best friend would be Ponce City Market, Six Flags, Downtown Atlanta, taking a walk around Centennial Olympic Park while visiting the World of Coca Cola Factory , Georgia Aquarium and The Civil Rights Museum. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
On my journey of becoming an entrepreneur, I have had a lot of support from family and friends. When I first had the idea of starting my own business, they were 100% supportive and gave me the extra encouragement I needed to build my dream. Entrepreneurship itself can be quite intimidating, make you fearful of taking the big leap. With the amount of support I have and believing in my self made me want to do what I was destined to do. Another big inspiration was my great grandmother, Mary Alice Searcy. Before her passing, she used to create various types of cakes, but she was famously known for her caramel cake. She inspired me to bake cakes, which led to the expansion of establishing a business where I could create cakes and other divine sweets. Also I want to shoutout Quanzerria Durpree for recommending me to Shoutout Atlanta.
