We had the good fortune of connecting with Akeer Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Akeer, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’m determined to leave behind generational wealth so that my daughter can have and if she gets older and decide to have kids, then they will have. I want to make history and be remembered.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So I’ve been crocheting since I was 6 years old and when I decided to turn my gift into a business, I started to learn more things about myself and having a business. It hasn’t been easy but the blessings I have received lately keeps me going. I’m just happy that my gift is finally being recognized. I don’t use patterns to make my designs, most of the times I visualize things. That’s how I’m able to bring my vision to life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I’m not that much of an outside person. I occasionally go out but I go to places with good vibes like moon dogs in buckhead which they have karaoke, I think Fridas in Fayetteville, Ga has good food and drinks.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to the HOUSE OF DAWN which is a non-profit organization for teen mom’s and their babies. When I was in foster care and became pregnant I went to this organization and they became my family. We’re still in contact 17years later. I also like to give credit to my village that’s in my life every day and keep me in positive spirits. Too many to name but they know who they are.
