We had the good fortune of connecting with Ajeng Mahardiyanti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ajeng, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I always thought that being a workaholic and not doing anything else other than work is something normal, then I knew it wasn’t right. Feeling burnout is the ultimate trigger for me to create my own work-life balance. Working full time as a Lead Laboratory Technologist takes most of my days and sometimes I have to bring work to home. Soon enough I realized that it’s not an ideal situation for me to work more than 40 hours a week and not having some time for myself. That was how I started going back to my hobby in reading and photography. Other new hobbies I will do soon are painting, knitting and doing Yoga which I always thought I will not be good at it, but then I realized that my purpose is self growth. I can be good at anything when I put a lot of  time and work to master it. I am glad I finally have the courage to explore a lot of new things. I constantly remind myself I have to take a good care of myself and do many positive things that make me happier each days.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The first time I started my photography business in February 2020 I nearly gave up when someone said in a photography group “if you don’t know what camera to get before you started, maybe photography isn’t for you”. I learn not to give up from my full time career in Clinical Diagnostics. When we do an assay and we fail, we repeat and analyze the problem. When I didn’t have any photography clients, I re market my business and analyze the solutions for my problems. Thankful enough I have had multiple weddings and engagement clients right after I started my side business. The point of success for my in this business is when all of my clients are happy and satisfied with my work

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Aside from Atlanta, we have a huge variety of restaurants in Duluth to try and places to hangout in Alpharetta. Getting some breakfast from La Madeleine in Duluth, having lunch at Food Terminal Alpharetta and hangout in dinner time at Halcyon Alpharetta

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family, boyfriend and his family, best friends, and my two dogs. They know how they always remind me that I will have a better day tomorrow when I feel down. Of course, there’s no words can describe how important their roles in my life and I just wanted to say I’m immensely grateful for having a very powerful support systems.
