We had the good fortune of connecting with Aiyanna Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aiyanna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Throughout my teen years my parents began investing in real estate. So having been immersed in that environment, entrepreneurship was highly encouraged from my youth. I’d seen others work under somebody, and soon realized that not only was being an entrepreneur a goal I wanted to achieve, but a luxury I craved.
So at the age of eighteen, I decided not to go to college and instead, chose to pursue real estate. A year later, I was officially licensed at nineteen years old!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In absolutely no way was becoming licensed effortless, but nothing good comes easy, so I didn’t even go into this with simplicity in mind. Though, coming from high school being my highest form of education, it was seriously the most academically challenging experience of my life, thus far.
While my age may seem like a disadvantage, I see it as a leg up in the business. Society is shifting into a more digital lifestyle, fortunately for me, that’s the only world I’ve ever known. More seasoned agents and mature clients may disregard me, and underestimate my abilities (which is perfectly fine), but I’m not afraid of the challenge. Ultimately, we’ve all passed the same exam, and proven ourselves to be qualified and knowledgeable in the same industry. Everyone has the freedom and the right to make their own decisions, however, I don’t feel like certain minute details, are something to get lost in, or ones to psych yourself out over.
I learned a bit about myself throughout the month I spent completing my courses and passing my final exam, and if I could sum myself up in three phrases they’d be:
1. “The worst you can hear is, “no.” (So don’t be afraid to hear it).
2. “You’ll never know if you don’t ask, or try.”
3. “With great risk, comes great reward.” (As cliché as it is).
You’ll only get out, what you put in. It may not be instant, but you’re bound to enjoy the abundant fruits of your labor in due time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m an adventurous foodie, so almost every outing I go to will most definitely involve eating new, and exciting foods, while simultaneously doing my happy dance. My current favorite restaurant in Atlanta is: El Valle Kitchen and Bar, it’s super modern and chic!
You’re talking to a beverage girl at heart, I LOVE drinks! If we’re going for a night out, I’d suggest either mead or a mango mojito (from El Valle, of course)! But if you’re looking for something non-alcoholic, my first choices would be: boba tea, or kombucha. Maybe you’re in the mood to multitask; you’re looking to eat and drink all at once (productivity at its finest), then a sno-cone from Pelican’s is my go-to, you simply can’t go wrong.
Usually I scope out restaurants to determine where I’ll be touring that day. Ponce City Market is a fun place to be if you’re wanting to be mostly indoors, but if your goal this summer is to finally catch the perfect tan, The Battery is a classic! Suppose you’re searching for fresh air and entertainment, coupled with some competition and exercise: Top Golf would be right up your alley. You’re not athletic? No worries! There’s plenty of food and drinks to outweigh the workout.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I briefly mentioned this prior, but my parents, along with my identical twin sister Anya, and the Lord, all played enormous parts in my road to real estate. If it weren’t for their immense encouragement, support, prayers, and shoulders for me to cry on, I don’t think I’d have had the strength to embark on this journey. I am sincerely, forever grateful to God and every single one of them.
