We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisya Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aisya, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always loved everything about the arts! Painting, music, theatre, film, television, and of course fashion! I love that fashion styling allows me to pull from all of those art forms and express it through my work. I honestly couldn’t ignore the passion that comes out when I get inspiration from the above art forms and the joy I get when a project comes together and comes out exactly how I and the teams that I work with envisioned it. There’s no better feeling! Always a proud moment!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So! I’ve been a stylist for five years and I’ve dabbled in just about all areas within fashion. Personal, Editorial, Wardrobe, Bridal, and Runway. I work with people from all backgrounds and all shapes and sizes. I absolutely enjoy what I do and I always have fun doing it!

I think my ability to adapt and create on the fly is what sets me apart. I’m good in high stress situations and I’m also able to envision what’s needed for any project thrown at me. I love meeting and working with new people and I love working with teams!

I’m honestly excited about my future in fashion. I don’t know what’s coming my way but I know it’ll be beyond what I imagined.

There’s always obstacles especially in the fashion industry so my best advice would be to never be afraid to reroute when needed. It’s ok if your plan takes you in a direction you didn’t map out. As long as you stay dedicated and disciplined it’ll all fall in to place. My brand quote is to “ be bold, be beautiful, be you!” That sums up how I execute each gig I get! I’m still climbing and working towards my goals so I would say my story is still in progress and I’m absolutely ok with that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooh that’s a good one! In no particular order. We would definitely have brunch at Urban Tap, dinner at Carmi’s Soul Food Restaurant, visit the point and chill by the water, Market square bakery and The Yard for gourmet grilled cheese. Shop and browse the vintage stores and boutiques on the South Side and Lawrenceville. Eon for another brunch then a concert at Carnegie Music Hall. Carnegie Science Center for adult night then Tequila Cowboys for karaoke and drinks. On Saturday we would go down to the strip district for the open market and eat at DeLuca’s. Make candles at Mix Candle Co. And do trap yoga at the Trap Yoga Studios. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to first give honor to God for giving me my gift and allowing me to have the vision needed to execute my gift. My mother deserves credit for cultivating my love of fashion at a young age. She’s the one that taught me the differences in fabrics, colors, how to layer monochromatic looks, staple pieces that you spend more on and trendy pieces that you add to your wardrobe to spice it up! I love you Mom! I can’t leave out one of my guardian angels Melissa Nesmith. She taught me how to thrift vintage pieces and showed me where and how to shop for pieces without breaking the bank. She encouraged me to style and always believed that I could be whatever I wanted to be in the fashion industry. To my first fashion mentor and first example of a fashionista, I love you, I miss you, and I hope I’m making you proud!
