We had the good fortune of connecting with Aileen Díaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aileen, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic/ creative career because I’ve always loved all types of art work people did growing up. Whether it was from someone doing a big hair transformation down or just painting a piece of artwork. I absolutely loved it!! I took art classes all throughout high school, but when I was introduced to hair it brought my eyes to a whole different side of creativity and it was always exciting. Every person in my chair is like an art canvas that have a different story, different starting point and it’s my job to make sure that their end result is flawless.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a licensed master cosmetology, I’m proud where I am in my career, there’s always something new going on when working with clients. I’m always excited when a client wants to switch it up to something different.

I wouldn’t really say it was hard nor easy getting to where I am right now. Definitely during cosmetology school was a bit of a struggle halfway through the program COVID hit and we had to shut down the school, so it was definitely hard to do hands on practice during the virtual session. Once the lockdown was lifted I started working in a small salon and did a lot of hands on with the owner that helped me so much that my school wasn’t able to provide during lockdown. One thing that I have learned while working in this industry is that mistakes are the best kind of lesson because you learn how to prevent certain outcomes and you educate yourself more. I’m always willing to learn different techniques and educate myself and be more knowledgeable. In this industry so many things come up and about, new product line, color line, and different techniques.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most definitely recommend going to the High Art Museum down in Atlanta amazing seeing all the different artwork. Next the Georgia Aquarium, the dolphin show is a must! Also going to see the big whale they have. If we were wanting to stroll around for a bit the Centennial Olympic Park has an amazing view of the city.
Now if we’re wanting something to eat I’d take them Peachtree Corner on Town Center Blvd. There’s a great pizza place called Fire and Stone Italian pizza Kitchen, the pizza is so good there. Another place I’d recommend is Jinya in downtown Alpharetta best ramen I’ve had, I’d recommend is the Tonkotsu Black ramen hands down 10/10

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out to my friends and family who have supported me, and that have recommended friends and family to me. To my amazing boyfriend who is always encouraging me and uplift my moods, when I feel down about work. Also, my coworkers at the salon and to all the stylists on social media who help out newer stylists with tip and tricks and education.
