We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Paton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrienne, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Throughout my life, I have made 3 major moves to new states where I knew no one. For college, I moved from Michigan to Virginia, and later to Texas when I transferred schools. Post-graduation, one year ago, in July 2021, I took my biggest risk and moved to Atlanta with no job and no connections here with my partner who began his PhD at Georgia Tech in the fall.
It ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, as a threw myself into the fitness world as a coach at Orangetheory Fitness and as a music teacher. I have met so many inspiring and motivating people in both of these fields that have pushed me to constantly grow as a teacher, coach, and learner.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
On top of being a fitness coach and music teacher, I have been growing a following on my music Instagram page, @adriennedoesmusic for almost 10 years.
In early high school, I started teaching myself flute and saxophone in addition to my main instrument, clarinet. I wanted to have a way to keep track of my progress and my phone didn’t have enough space to keep my videos. So instead I created an Instagram account (originally called @saxafluteclarinet – saxophone, flute, and clarinet combined) and started posting videos of me playing online. I now have a wonderful community over there that has grown as I have.
It was definitely not easy, and there were many times when I considered deleting my account due to harassment and/or negative feedback on the platform. I learned over the years that there is much more good in the world than there is bad. Some days my content and my positivity can make another person’s day a little bit better, and that is really the whole purpose in my personal contribution to social media platforms.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
On top of the to-do list would be an evening bike ride from Midtown, past Piedmont Park, and onto the Beltline. I love experiencing nightlife on the Beltline. We would, of course, have to stop by either New Realm Brewery or Pour Taproom along the way, in addition to Krog Street Market for dinner.
We would have to go to West Midtown as well and hit up Holiday Bar for some coffee (their matcha is bomb!) and Upbeet for a curry bowl.
Of course we cannot forget about a workout at Orangetheory West Midtown.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Orangetheory Fitness West Midtown!
