We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Figures and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrienne, how does your business help the community?
My business Diamonds in the Rough mentors preteen and teen girls in the community. We help to build their confidence, self esteem, and help them to find their voices. We also help to bridge the gaps of Mother and Daughter relationships. We do this through the creative arts, expression, and faith. One of our goals is for mother’s to understand their impact and roles in their daughter’s lives no matter the sacrifices that are being made. We also want daughter’s to understand the sacrifices that parents make to provide for them, and why its important to understand their leadership. We’re breaking the mold of generational cycles and trauma, so we can build generational wealth and impact amongst other teen girls!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
By day, I’m a registered nurse who cares, love, and help heal those that deal with acute or chronic diseases. I also help to lift their spirits and make them feel better.
By night and the weekends, I’m a creative who mentors, coaches, writer, artist, podcaster, foodie, lover of music, and overall around the way girl.
I’m a woman that knows she’s different and has the courage to embrace that. I’ve learned to accept my failures, but turn them into lessons. Everything I’m learning is not for me but those that follow me, my future family, children, and those I’ll come in contact with. God created me to stand out and be the change for my family and all of those attached to me. I’ve been equipped to embrace my experiences but continue to walk in victory!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay, let’s be honest. We’re going to take a nap first because things have definitely changed a bit and I’m not so young anymore. Lol. We’ll do some type of concert in the park or festival! I love being outside especially with the seasons turning into fall. For entertainment, we’ll go to Robyn’s Garden, The Camp, or Stovehouse to hear some live music and then hit the town later for dinner. I’m a foodie so we end up anywhere from sushi, Mexican, Italian, or Soul food! Some local spots in town would include: SuperHero Chef, Hammerheads, Rock n Roll Sushi, and Grille 29 just to name a few. If you’re looking for nice glass of wine, then Wine and Design and Robyn’s Garden would be my go to. If we needed to, we definitely could get to a beach!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that have been apart of my growth and me becoming who I am today! First, I want to thank Brittany Morton, founder of Saved in the City! She seen a shy, reserved new believer and made sure she showed me Christ, and helped me to begin walking into my gifting! Her introduction in my life, allowed me to start developing my relationship with God. Thank you Brittany! Secondly, I want to thank Pastor Phineka Friend. Her mentorship program helped me to deal with the inner me I’ve been running away from for years. I was truly able to “Heal Her”. I love you Lady Friend! Next, I want to thank The Commas Academy! I’ve been able to look at my business and push past any insecurities I‘ve been facing as a new business owner. Because of them, I’ve had the courage to produce some amazing things, and I’m not done yet! I want to thank my amazing parents! God truly blessed me with two unique parents. I pray they’re in heaven proud of me. I want to also thank you Gran Gran for your prayers. They have been carrying me since you’ve been gone! Lastly, a special thank you to all of the amazing people that are in my village! You constantly push me, motivate me, and encourage me to keep going! I love you all!
