We had the good fortune of connecting with Adi Devta Kaur and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adi Devta, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Being a yoga instructor means holding space for the community and people that you serve. Sometimes the needs of others can be strongly placed in front of your own needs.Showing up for the community means showing up for myself first. There were times that I would just run and run, go and go, when energetically I didn’t have it. My body began to ache because of taking on too much. Some of these pains were not my own. I began to experience the symptoms of my clients. This had to change immediately. I took off. I began to love on myself. This included writing, charging (going outside in the sun with my bare feet), going to bodies of water and just sitting or getting inside, taking a break from social media platforms and the “rat race” of content creation. I just pressed pause. I realized I can not allow the needs of other people to trump the need to be good to myself. Im constantly reminding my students to set boundaries and offer compassion and when I realized I wasn’t offering my body this very thing in which I speak about and truly deserve is when I set the balance of work and life.

I life and work.. simultaneously. I love what I do. Im a yoga instructor. It’s all about the breath and majority of the time

I’m breathing with my students. This causes a natural reaction and release for happy hormones in my body. The balance is when I take care of me as well as taking care of my students.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The things that set me apart from others other than my credentials of being a 500 Hr YT is my passion for helping others. My niche for understanding, connecting and relating to my students is what best sets me apart. I am able to connect with people on a level that is not only spiritually but also cosmically. There are gifts that I am able to tap into when helping others. These are divine gifts and are used with care and the upmost respect.

It was not easy getting to where I am today. Where I am today is a result of doing the work it takes to heal. This is what we call ‘shadow work.’ This is the dark side of things. These are the traumas, the self sabotaging, addiction, and other dark demons we deal with behind closed doors. This is a result of me choosing to show up for myself. I stopped placing the blame on others, my parents, my partners, the guy at the gas station and so on. I took responsibility of my actions and that looks like success.

I am most successful because I chose to be radically transparent with myself and my students. I show up for them like never before because of it. My passion to help others come from darkness is ridiculous. I am gifted with a tremendous amount of reserve energy to handle things that others would in fact run from.

I want the world to know that darkness isn’t a place to be afraid of. I want the world to know that in darkness seeds are planted. Seeds must then be watered and they are then reaching towards what? The light. I am here to tell you that the brand THEBLKYOGI is for you and anyone that looks like you. As long as you chose to Breath Living Knowledge daily you are a ‘blkyogi’!

It is my honor and duty to bring lost souls to the light.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would go to turkey creek absolutely! This is a place where I frequent.. much nature much solitude. I enjoy this place because there is a strong ancestral presence. We would spend hours here, a nice picnic. meditation and yoga. Id bring the ambiance. Fruit, incense, yoga blankest and stuff..

We would go to Falafel Cafe, they have the best falafels in my opinion. Ive been vegetarian for the past 6 years so I have a few recipes of my own.

We would go to the botanical gardens. Because flowers duh!

This day would be spent journaling here… spending some again much needed time with nature.

Im sure I’ve cooked this day.

We would go to Moss Rock, another preserve. Its a place with space and water.. I love the nature sounds.

We would be here for hours.. maybe nap in a hammock. I have two.. I would bring them pastedGraphic.png

lots of fruit, water, sun.

We would go to a Sunday funday festival with drums, yoga, and many other activities.

I think I would cook the remainder of the time.

Im an amazing chef, Indian food has become my favorite. I love salads and other light pranic foods.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my Facebook family and actual family and friends. Without you I am nothing. It was your constant support financially, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically at times to help me getting to where I am today. Each time I asked for help I received it with open arms. I owe all the thanks and praise to the most high for blessing me with such tremendous hearted people. Thank you for believing in THEBLKYOGI – Breathing Living Knowledge, thank you for believing in me and never giving up on me. I am most grateful for all of your prayers. -Adi Devta Kaur
