We had the good fortune of connecting with Abram Lembono and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abram, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

My family runs a couple of businesses back in my home country Indonesia. They have fashion companies and coffee shops. I grew up watching them manage all of their business while spending time with my family. My Mom has always supported me in music since the beginning. She never asked me to study academics when I was in school but pushed me to play the piano before playing video games. So I was learning music from college and a business mindset from my family. I spent years learning, performing, composing, writing and producing music as a professional. In nine years, I have built a reputation as a professional music producer.
The process behind starting my own business Soundsdope is to create a community where musicians can help non-musicians to create a song. Connecting people who don’t have the access to professional musicians, producers, engineers and songwriters to the community who can help to finish their song professionally. The idea came when I was studying at Berklee College of Music, I met a lot of talented musicians from all over the world and we collaborated to create the best possible product. I asked some of my best friends to join the team and help the music community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

ABRAM is my personal artist project as a DJ/Producer-Songwriter originally from Indonesia who lives in the US now. I started to produce and write my music in 2011, inspired by Diplo, DJ Snake, Avicii from the EDM world combined with Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus from the Hip-hop side makes me explore a wide variety of music. Throughout my musical career, I was nominated for Breakthrough New Artist Net TV in 2014, AMI Awards in 2015 and became the semifinalist in the “International Songwriting Competition” and “Song of the Year” in 2016 in the United States. Throughout my musical journey, I collaborated with artists around the world to create a myriad of catchy pop songs that emotionally resonate with the audiences. Music has always been a medium for me to express my life experiences. I put all of my feelings into the tones, words and rhythms that I write in my music. The blend of all of these melodies and harmonies is how I connect to the universe.

On other hand, Soundsdope is the company that I created to connect musicians from all over the world. Our visions are to open collaboration access to the artist around the world and make a song come to life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I live in NYC on the first day I would bring them to Times Square and give them the experience to explore the street food around there and visit Little Italy at night to have dinner. On the second day, I will bring them to Central Park, we will spend time exploring nature and we’ll have a nice dinner at Tavern on the Green. On the third day, I will bring them to Rockefeller Centre, where we explore the area, visit the Radio City Hall, and eat dessert at Magnolia Bakery. On the fourth day, I will bring them to the Empire State Building and The Edge to see New York City from the top. We will have dinner at Yakiniku Futago to taste delicious Japanese food. On the fifth day, we’re visiting Brooklyn Bridge, Dumbo, get some lunch at the Time Out Market and go to Brooklyn to explore some of the coffee shops and art culture. On the sixth day, I will bring them to Thai Villa to eat a delicious lunch then go to the American Museum of National History and MOMA. On the last day, I’ll bring them to Fifth Avenue to shop, then have a nice dinner at Le Bernardin. In New York, we will meet with a lot of interesting people during our stay, some of them are artists, film directors, videographers, musicians, bankers, and any other cool jobs that New York City offers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my parents who support me since the beginning, my best friends and all of my collaborators who work with me in the past (I have all of their names in my head and you can check them in my Spotify discography :), the team in Big Hello Records, Warner Music Indonesia, Where Are The Fruits, Massive Music Entertainment, Soundsdope, Art of Tree and all Berklee faculties who taught me a lot when I was a student. Thanks to everyone who became a part of my musical journey.
