We had the good fortune of connecting with Abdulsalam Bello Oluwapelumi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abdulsalam, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am Abdulsalam Bello Pelumi, from Lagos City, Nigeria. I am a Graphics Designer, Creative Content Writer, Video editor and virtual Personal Assistant. I have a Diploma in social work and Administration and currently studying sociology at Lagos state university.

I came from an average income earning family and was born and raised in a rural community in Lagos City, Nigeria. I grew up in a Community that’s full of young talent but the system has failed alot and killed lots of dreams in them.

I started working professionally at the age of 16, working in factory, cleaning in backery, and doing more hard labour jobs at younger age. Growing up I always believe I’ll be greater in life and I know I will be successful in life, My dreams are to have a NGO Foundation, Also become a Human right activist to help people and also be a movie director, Editor and Videographer, Which I’m still working on all of these.

The year 2019 during COVID-19 lockdown period, I couldn’t work and there was hunger too, this challenging period really had a good impact in me. I had to survive by all means to stay out of hunger.

On day I decided to search for online jobs and remote jobs that are related to skills I have and what I’m interested in. luckily I found Graphics Designing, Creative Content Writing and Video Editing, I started learning from YouTube, Facebook groups and meeting people on campus that are professional in these Fields.

Before COVID-19 lockdown I never knew I could “write content” I never knew I could become a “Graphics Designer” even tho I have interest in video editing I never knew I could start “editing” and Also taking the role of Virtual Personal Assistant and making money from this skills faster than I expected.

Today I am CEO of “Oluwapelumi Creativity” (meaning God is with me creative) where we Create Graphics Designs, write Contents, edit videos and also help people in their day-to-day activities as a Virtual Personal Assistant.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I want the world to learn from my story that no matter the challenges or obstacle or where you are from or your background or family you can still get to where you are going.

I started learning Graphics designing and video editing during the COVID-19 challenging period, when they was no food because we can’t go out to work. I needed to survive I wanted my family to live a better life. It so sad that alot of young talent in my community that the government has failed.

I’m so proud of stages I’ve gotten to in my career life today. I’m grateful! With the use of social media I’ve met and had deals with alot of successful people online that might be difficult to meet offline and have contributed to my success. I am proud and exited about the the brands and companies I’ve worked with and still working with it’s an honour and opportunity.

I’ve learnt that becoming successful in life, the process and steps might not go as planned. But most importantly being in the right place at the right time can really change ones story forever. I have been scammed online before and I was in debt for some time but it feels like I should quit even tho I don’t want to. But I kept getting stronger and better in the journey of getting successful.

My Company Oluwapelumi creativity; is a Graphics design and Creative Content Writings and video editing brand that helps people promote what they do, we help brands and companies with designs, writings and videos promotion that can boost more sales and awareness and lot more engagement. Although we are still growing but we have come along way to get to where we are today.

Also we have a foundation project we are working on, the idea of this project is to help the less privileges and people who want to learn and leave a better life. This includes: creating jobs, creating homes, foods, businesses and making the beneficiary make the same to other people living like them before.
