Meet Abby Plusen | Licensed Therapist + Certified Transformational Life Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Plusen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abby, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My own family needed mental health resources during the pandemic and I was working with a life coach at the time. I loved the idea of marrying therapy and coaching to create a look-back as well as a look forward in discussing life’s challenges, patterns, and blocks. My clients love the combination of a deep-dive into the past to inform and plan for the future.

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe we are all just the stories we tell ourselves. There is nothing good or bad about this – it is just how we craft and make sense of our life. You and I may have the same exact experience of something, and you may hear, notice, and even value things I had not. If we are made up of our stories and our stories are extremely subjective, how do we make good sense of the world around us? You have all the answers inside you. As a holistic and integrative therapist and coach, I guide folks toward a balanced understanding of how the past directly affects the present while we will set goals for the future.
My practice is unique in that it uses a mix of narrative, behavioral, boundary, and somatic work as well as goal setting to help my clients find a centered place of calm and peace. Very few therapists are incorporating life coaching into their practice.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live and work in Baltimore City and it’s the best. Our city is rich in history and diversity. We would want to check out the art scene in Hampden and Mt. Washington area as well get dinner and people watch in the Inner Harbor. We would go to a comedy club after we visited the Aquarium. Inner Harbor East will be our best spot for dining and shopping!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My sister, Meg Geisewite, just wrote a book about getting sober. She details the journey she took in both therapy and coaching to become alcohol free. Meg is an inspiration to me and women all over the country as they begin looking at grey area drinking.
