We had the good fortune of connecting with Abbie Biddle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abbie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
By conventional definition, risk implies the potential for loss. However, by reframing risk as the prospect of learning, each step becomes an opportunity rather than a mere chance for failure. Embracing this mindset has enabled me to uncover numerous possibilities simply by daring to explore them. If we limit risk to assuming that doors are likely already closed, we deny ourselves the chance to discover otherwise.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career has unfolded methodically, shaped by seizing opportunities and diligent effort. As a high school freshman, I crossed paths with a coach who took a chance on a small-town girl from Tennessee, leading to lasting friendships and four collegiate soccer championships at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Selecting a career in education before the global pandemic, I navigated tremendous shifts in the educational landscape, teaching in the U.S., Argentina, and virtually to students in Brazil.
Despite the profound challenges of the pandemic, I gained an extra year of collegiate soccer eligibility and pursued a master’s degree in business at an art school—a surprising yet fitting choice. Here, I realized that life, like art, is about crafting a unique story and bringing ideas to fruition. This insight inspired me to ideate several businesses from start to finish and contribute to securing SCAD women’s soccer’s inaugural championship.
Post-collegiate soccer, I began interning in Business Operations for professional soccer team, South Georgia Tormenta FC, while completing my master’s degree. This stage provided invaluable mentorship, igniting my passion for partnerships. Today, I feel honored to work in Innovative Partnerships at the Savannah College of Art and Design, merging my passions for education, business, and partnerships to create groundbreaking solutions for a better tomorrow.
My journey underscores the transformative power of embracing opportunities and forging one’s own unique path. I am driven by passion and a profound love for what I do and who I do it for.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Savannah, I love every opportunity to show my friends around whenever they visit. We start our days with a tour of my favorite coffee spots: Foxy Loxy Cafe, Perc Coffee, and Franklin’s.
In the evenings, there’s nothing better than heading to a rooftop like Electric Moon, Peregrine, or Myrtle and Rose. I love watching the cargo ships glide by while we search for their origins. I also love Savoy Society and Foxy Loxy wine and s’mores for an eclectic Saturday night.
Weekends are perfect for visiting the farmer’s market and enjoying leisurely picnics in Forsyth Park. A slow beach day on Tybee Island is my go-to for relaxation and unwinding by the ocean.
Dining out is always a treat, especially at places like Vic’s River Grill, where we explore new cuisines.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my circle — comprising family, friends, mentors, teammates, and coaches — who consistently challenge and inspire me, much like iron sharpens iron. Their unwavering support, constructive criticism, and invaluable wisdom have profoundly shaped my personal and professional growth journey. In my mind, they are the heroes of my story.
