We had the good fortune of connecting with Abba Parrott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abba, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance has just recently, over the last four years, gotten really tricky. Prior to being married and having babies I was 100 percent dedicated to work and work only! I was in the hustle, and dance was my one true love. Once I got married I found myself trying to figure out ways to stay dedicated to my craft, but also now be a wife (and later a mom). Being a mom and wife has brought me so much joy, joy that I didn’t know existed. I feel like I’ve finally figured out a routine of being able to balance work while still being an amazing mom and wife.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a dance teacher/choreographer in the Atlanta area. My story is unique and crazy, like anyone else’s.
I grew up dancing, it was my safe place. My parents were divorced when I was younger and addiction ran rapid through my family. Dance was where I was able to get away and be my true self. As I got older I developed a severe eating disorder. Who wouldn’t be a dancer, we look at ourselves in the mirror all day. But I overcame that with a lot of other roadblocks that life put in front of me. Because of my story and things that I’ve been through I’ve been able to share my stories and help other girls through tough times. That makes every single thing worth it. Knowing that my pain and my story makes a difference for someone.
There’s so many cool things coming up and happening in my dance life, I hope you all join me along for the ride!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is fun! I think I would take them to the land trust (where I also snuck away and got married). We could walk through there and then probably go to the Optimist for a 10/10 dinner!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicated my shoutout to MusEffect. This non-profit changed my life and I wouldn’t be the artist I am without them.
