We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Sumlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose to pursue an artistic, creative career because, I couldn’t see my self doing anything else. For as long as I can remember, music, and art have always been apart of my life. I attempted to go to school for electrical engineering, However, it was short lived. It just wasn’t me. From that moment on, I knew what I wanted to do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is truly an extension of who I am. From my style of drums, to the melodies, and the lyrics, I have always focused on pushing the sound forward and challenging myself to think outside of the box. I feel keeping that in mind sets me apart from others. Especially in todays climate. Because of that, I am excited to release all of this FIRE I have been compiling over the last few years. A lot of blood sweat and tears has gone into everything that we have been curating.
Besides, I’ve heard no, or not quite throughout my professional career., and I’ve never given up on myself or my abilities. Even though, at times I wanted to. It has not been easy. I’m sure anyone pursing a dream can attest, Being told I’ve landed album placements, with big named artist, that doesn’t end up happening, can be demoralizing. It can sometimes be challenging to move past. Knowing the record could’ve potentially changed my life and those around me. However, Keeping my faith in God, has always helped me to keep going, and to keep pushing. Every lesson I have been blessed to receive, has made me a better person. Especially, beyond the creativity. Understanding the world does not revolve around myself, or my dream, I want the world to see how hard work and dedication to self, can in-fact, change your life. We all have a purpose in life. Knowing what that is is half the battle.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I’m really a recluse and a gamer, so I am definitely hitting up Your 3rd spot. Great vibes. Drinks, and games are the perfect combo. There is a lot to do in the city. Ponce City Market/Krog Street a lot to choose from. Then we hit up Spice House, grab some fire Caribbean Vibes. If I’m not in the studio, I’m at home. I am always working on my craft, but I’m sure we would find something to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to shoutout my family. My dad passed away this year and it has been extremely tough, having to deal with the daily ups and downs emotionally. My mother, sister, and I, have gone through a lot this year. Without their love and support, and continuous encouragement to keep going, I’m honestly not sure I would have been able to push through such a traumatic time. I also have to shoutout my bro’s LG and Lee Michaels for believing in me and telling me to go harder.
