We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaliyah Duah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaliyah, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My business Financial Revolutionn helps the world because I am providing financial literacy education to families in marginalized communities. For generations people in low income communities field with black and brown kids did not have access to financial literacy and entrepreneurship programs which are helping them have a headstart in life. From young these kids are given Jordans and iPhones but do not know what the stock market is, where billions of dollars is being made on a daily basis. By providing them access to this information, more young people are learning that there is a different game to life and they can avoid making poor financial decisions by having access to right information. In some workshops, we go even further and talk about the black community and how there are things placed in our communities such as liquor stores, Chinese restaurants, and project buildings that keep people living in poor conditions. By them learning this, they unlock that their everyday living situations are not normal and they began to challenge their way of life. Lastly, my business solves the issue of young people not seeing other positive role models in their communities who aren’t rappers, entertainers, or athletes. The see someone like myself who is from the neighborhood, college educated, and an entrepreneur who is working their way up at a young age.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Financial Revolutionn is a platform teaching financial literacy and entrepreneurship to ages 8-25 online and in classrooms. We work with schools, organizations, and individuals to teach financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

What sets us apart is our ecosystem of young people working together to inspire other young people. The CEO, Aaliyah Duah is 21 and started the organization at 17. We hire interns from local high schools and colleges that work to achieve the goal of teaching financial literacy. For our podcast, The Young & Dumb Show on Revolt Podcast Network our producer is a young high school student who is interested in film and screenwriting. So we are providing opportunities across the board to young black kids in locker communities.

I am most proud of having a curriculum in about 10 NYC schools where I used to play basketball in. Some kids see me today and they tell me how truly inspired they are and that they never knew some of the information I am. giving them existed. I am almost most proud that my best friend and I were able to leave a legacy at our Alma Mater Virginia State University where we advocated for VSU to provide a funded trip to Ghana, West Africa for VSU students to visit the motherland and learn about their African heritage.

I’ve learned that hard work, networking, and being good at what you do is a recipe for success. I also learned how operating in your niche and knowing your value is important. What most young people fail to realize is the number one thing they have right now is their youth. People are willing to help and support them because they are young, so they must play to that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend and I like to eat so we would definitelty get food at some local spots such as Peppas Jerk Chicken and Cornbread Brooklyn. Other than food we like to go on long adventures, so we would probably end up somewhere random like Brooklyn Nets game. We also like to shop at Zara so we would definitely go to the mall.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my parents. My mom is super supportive and works really hard for me to have the connections and accomplish some of the things I want to get done. My dad is the man behind the scenes that I run my business ideas by and make sure I am doing things right. They truly inspire and I want to take everything I learned from both of my parents to change the world. I would also love to shoutout the people. The people that like my post, comment, share with others and mention my name in rooms I’m not in. I love and cherish those people, they keep me going and allow me to know this work is meaningful.
