We had the good fortune of connecting with A1pha Gang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi A1pha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting our own business, Geeks and Nerds Growing (A1pha G.A.N.G.), was deeply rooted in our collective desire to redefine the narrative in the music industry and create a supportive community for artists. We recognized the power of coming together, not just as a “gang,” but as a pack, a unit that could grow and thrive together. In an industry where positive images of black artists are lacking, we saw an opportunity to challenge stereotypes and showcase a different perspective. We wanted to break away from the narrow portrayal of rap music, emphasizing that not everything revolves around money and drugs; rap has evolved far beyond those themes.

As individuals who may not have always felt socially accepted as geeks or nerds, we aimed to create a space where being open about who we are and expressing ourselves freely was encouraged and celebrated. A1pha G.A.N.G. has become that safe space where we support each other in a world that often feels against us, recognizing that we are stronger together. Our business is not solely about profit; it’s about fostering a sense of belonging, creativity, and empowerment within our community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Alpha G.A.N.G. is short for Geeks And Nerds Growing, we aim to create an inclusive vibe where everyone can be their true selves. We’ve been a tight-knit group since college days, and sticking to what we believe in has really paid off, even as we’ve gotten more attention. Our creativity keeps things fresh and exciting, pushing us to try new things and set the bar higher. One day we even dream of getting our member James to “Rock” the turtleneck and gold chain combo, just imagine that.

At the end of the day, it’s our realness and sticking together that everyone loves the most. It’s about growing as a family of geeks and nerds, making space for everyone to shine.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We are inspired by a multitude of sources that fuel our creativity and drive. Firstly, we find inspiration in expressing our own creative ideas and expressions, using art as a medium to share our unique perspectives with the world. Additionally, we draw inspiration from artists who boldly challenge norms and push boundaries, such as Kanye West, J. Cole, Tyler the Creator, and Donald Glover. Their fearlessness in breaking free from conventions motivates us to explore new territories in our own work. Furthermore, we are inspired by the concept of black excellence, striving to uplift and celebrate the achievements of our community.
