We had the good fortune of connecting with A-Zal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi A-Zal, why did you pursue a creative career?
For me, it was all about realizing that you will get just one life to make just one career. So, its best to make a career in something that you love. It was always clear to me that I want to make a successful career, and not a resume. And, I also knew the thing I do the best is music, not only singing, but every aspect of it whether it is songwriting, production, lyrics, mixing. I loved every aspect of it and mastered every skill to make sure I have a successful career. Now when I look back, it was the best decision I ever took.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a singer based in New York and I moved to the USA in 2018 with a dream to work in Hollywood. It all started in 2014 when I came to the USA and knocked at the doors of Hans Zimmer’s studio Remove Control Productions in Santa Monica, LA. I really admired his film scoring and was seeking an opportunity to assist him. But, life turned the other way and I landed up getting some big projects with CBS, MCU and Netflix which gave me the traction that my career needed.

Within a few years in the USA, I collaborated with major Hollywood film studios such as Marvel Studios, CBS Network and Netflix. His soundtracks have been featured in many popular American television series and a Netflix film. I wrote two soundtracks for two episodes of Ms. Marvel (season 1), one soundtrack for one episode of Loki (season 1), one soundtrack for one episode of NCIS: Los Angeles (season 11), and two soundtracks for one episode of The Twilight Zone (season 2). He also wrote one soundtrack in the Netflix film Resort to Love.

It was definitely not easy to get here as I had no direct contact in Hollywood. But, I kept reaching out to the right people and had to be creative not only about my music, but also the art of reaching out to people. The biggest challenge was to convince these big Hollywood studios that I would deliver the best.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a New Yorker, so it all has to start with Mid Town. I love exploring the hidden streets in New York and I have a few favorite places where I often sit with my guitar. I would definitely take them to Dumbo, NY as I used to play at the subway station when I first came to the USA. Something that I also love is going to have my favorite cart food. I am also a huge fan of road trips and I love exploring cities surrounding New York, so that’s something I’d definitely do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I was fortunate that I met Karen Tenkhoff, who is the producer of the film ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’ which made its name at the BAFTA Awards. She supported me in my film scoring and such support from established film professionals helps a budding artist immensely.
