We had the good fortune of connecting with Imani Prince and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Imani, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought behind starting my Youtube channel was for people to see my face. I was also asked by a lot of supporters who read my music blog. “koolinthegang.blog.” I have had the blog for a while, about 4 years before I started my Youtube journey in 2020. I think people wanted to create a more personal relationship with me. I am glad that I created my Youtube channel to execute this. I have found it a lot easier to do when creating content in a timely manner.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am Imani P from the DMV! I have a music blog called imaniverusus on Youtube. I review music, artists, and music history. What makes me different as a music blogger!? I talk about anime and video games as well! I am always excited about new releases. I usually put those reviews on my Tiktok. It isn’t easy to express your opinion online let alone show your face while doing it. I find safety in knowing there are people out there that can hear my fair music review; even about artists I like.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In DC, I would definitely take you all to Tony Changs in Gallery Place. That is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the entire world! I would also want to take them through all the museums. At home, our museums are mostly free except for a few. You can spend an entire day learning history about race, art, or just niche things. After all of that, we would have to hit the Lincoln Memorial and pick some food up near the many food trucks. The Lincoln Memorial has so many steps, but when you get to the top you can literally watch the sunset while grubbing down on some ice cream from a food truck or something.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out to my Father. He was a DJ and music manager. He loves music so much! He taught me all the basics, the samples, and so many genres outside of just hip-hop/RnB. I will forever appreciate him for that. I probably got my musical ear from as well as me just being a virtuoso. I also want to shout out my friend Adaugo for even encouraging me to create a music blog. She saw all the potential in me. She still does! She told me, “hey you should make a blog. You analyze music very well.” She was right! I do analyze it well and I have gotten better at it over the years.
