Meet Brandon Ellis | Performing Artist & Casting Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, what do you attribute your success to?
Passion and love must be embedded in your journey to succeed at all times. For me it’s always been about honesty & inspiration & how I can touch other people’s lives like myself that may be watching along the way of my journey ! God didn’t just give me these amazing artistic gifts for myself. I believe they were given by God to me for me to share His love He has for me through them generously.
We can only keep what we have by giving them away to others who need encouragement, positive examples and motivation. And that is what my pray is . It takes courage to be a leader, mentor, role model or power of example of any kind. I believe we all are when we embrace our unique talents and gifts that we possess and hone in on for the world to see & experience.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Scholarship Program changed my entire career into sheer dance artistry excellence and my passion excelled to heights I never could of imagined it to become. I’m very proud of all my accomplishments such as having toured with the AlvinAiley Repertory Ensemble for 3 years, being invited to choreograph on the scholarship students of AlvinAiley, being invited to teach in several divisions on faculty as one of the instructors at The AlvinAiley Dance Center. The most difficult thing during those outstanding achievements was the fact that I was a young adult living with Vitiligo, which was a very rare skin condition back then caused by lack of pigmentation/melanin of the skin. I was very insecure about it and wanted to have perfect even skin like everyone else. I got tired from being teased as little boy, and stared at all my life. I didn’t want people to wonder what race I belonged to. Today I considered myself multi racial with Black, Italian, Jamaican, Panamanian & Irish in my demographic makeup and very proud to be. Dancing professionally during these times got over my insecurities and helped build my confidence into the successful performing artist I am today. As well as the love & continuous support I received over my years from my all my amazing mentors , friends and family. The key is to keep going & never give up on yourself!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever I’ve had a visitor come from another state or city to visit me, I try to keep their time spent with me catered to what they think they want or need to experience. So often I ask them then we go from there. Things like, plays or concerts at The Fox Theatre here in downtown Atlanta, Any site seeing at CNN, Coca Cola Museum or the Aquarium. I would mostly suggest we hang out in my familiar part of town in Midtown.
