Meet Andre Soares | Brazilian-American Author, Screenwriter, Stage & Film Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andre Soares and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andre, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Hey!
Thank you for having me!
So… Just a little context. I created my own publishing imprint and production house, Process Protocol LLC, in 2019.
I needed a structure to claim ownership over my works: novels, screenplays, ad copies, shorts… Growing up in the Jay-Z era, I’ve always admired his business acumen, how ownership was always in the plans for him, ever since he started rapping in 88′.
That’s when I decided to take control of my own narrative. As a creative, I was first told to follow market drivers (popular tropes and gimmicks), write popular genres (romance among others…) and fit in the “New York Times Bestseller” mold.
But I was born in adversity, I was raised in a place where labels were fluid. And I think my success comes down to that one thing: I bring something new to the table; unique ways to tell stories, themes that are often sidelined.
It comes at a price (narrower reach) but it’s totally worth it! Success is relative, right? This is my definition of success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Andre Soares, 32, Brazilian-American author, screenwriter and actor based in Atlanta, GA.
I was initially born in Brazil, grew up in France and West Africa until I moved to the US in the 2000s.
My creative career has been everything but easy, that’s for certain *laughs*.
As a foreigner, and a male, there are certain barriers of entry that are rarely discussed because we do not belong to groups that benefit from mainstream media coverage. But consistency has always been a cornerstone of my growth.
I studied a lot, both in college and outside of the academic circuit, and I trained (acting classes in Arizona and Atlanta, creative writing workshops in NYC), and trained, and trained.
I don’t believe there’s a miracle recipe for success. But there are common factors to successful people: they are quiet, result-driven and study their craft. I think this is what I’m the most proud of: to have produced original works and built a strong brand despite the hardships I’ve faced over the last 10 years.
As far as my message to the world, it’s fairly simple: I want to move minds, to question preconceptions, to challenge the status quo, in storytelling and beyond. My last novel, America is a Zoo, is a prime example of that ideology.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I remember us discussing that last time we’ve met and I’m excited to expand on it, because things have changed.
Atlanta is vibrant, and a cultural powerhouse! But after four novels, two screenplays and countless ad copies, I started looking into further self-care options while exploring the city and its outskirts.
A few spots to check out if you’re visiting:
1. If you are looking for an AUTHENTIC Italian restaurant with a European charm and freshly made food, try Nino’s on Cheshire Bridge Rd. Also, their wine selection is amazing!
2. The Fernbank After Dark experience. The Fernbank museum is well-known but the “After Dark” series is more of a hidden gem. It is a cool hands-on museum experience for people 21 and over, with bites and craft cocktails. Highly recommend!
3. Davidson-Arabia Nature Preserve and Panola Mountain State Park. Atlanta (and Georgia) is home to MANY parks. But those two are not as popular as staples like Piedmont or Stone Mountain, and therefore were left mostly untouched. They offer a lot of activities (camping in trees, hiking, biking, archery etc…) and only the second one requires a 5 dollar entrance fee.
4. Iwi Fresh. Founded by the late Yolanda Owens, it is a black-owned business that single-handedly redefined the spa experience. Made from scratch beauty care products, facials for men and kids, nail services… This is a spot you MUST visit during your stay in Atlanta. There’s nothing else like it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
You know, I practice gratitude on a daily basis. I think it’s important to recognize the people who stood with you throughout the forming, storming, norming and performing stages. As of now, I belong to the latter.
And at this stage of my life, I owe a lot to my kids (who have been understanding and patient), to the few day ones who remain (Moniqua, Michael, Oliver, Quan, Brittany among others) and to my church group (which has been a breath of fresh air in a country where most connections are driven by mutual materialistic benefits).
