We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Otway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is a large part of being an entrepreneur. There are no guarantees that anything will succeed even when you write everything out. Taking that risk however is how progress is made, societies greatest achievements were risks. The Civil Rights Movement is an example of extreme risks being taken by a large group of people that resulted in the betterment of the entire black community. Without risk there is no growth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
NO B.A.N. WORLD is a platform dedicated to highlighting artists, creatives, and brands. By use of videography, photography, and events we give people an opportunity to be heard, connect, and spread their network. Over the course of 3 years we have amassed a loyal community of artists that continues to grow. Year 1 we were making content out of my 2 bedroom apartment that I shared with my best friend since elementary. That year saw the start of our fan favorite podcast Bedrock Radio, a series where artists submit their music and we give our honest feedback.
Year 2 we found ourselves in an old dilapidated church, led by the nonprofit organization Mixdeity, where we continued to build on the foundation we laid down the year prior. We continued on to season 3 of Bedrock Radio and introduced our new series NO B.A.N. CERTIFIED, a series where artists perform an in studio version of one of their songs. That was a big year for us because we started to see the fruits of our labor pay off after we sold out our second live show Wit Da Homies Live. That moment really let us know that we have an impact in our city and that we have to keep going.
Year 3, 2023, we have opened up NO B.A.N. STUDIOS to the public. Here we will be able to consistently create our content, offer our services to our audience, and create a space our community can convene. As this year continues I am excited to face the new challenges we are faced with head on and continue to break barriers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to NO B.A.N. STUDIOS to get some fly photos for their Instagram. After that I would take them to the beltline to get active and explore Midtown. For food I’d have to take them to Shri Thai in Atlantic Station, not for their sake but for mine because it’s been too long since I’ve been there. To hang out I would Introduce them to the 602 homies and go to the CZ, if you know you know. The rest of their trip they can figure it out cause I don’t even like to go out that much for real. Have you seen how much they are charging nowadays? Ridiculous!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my birth mother Dr. Otway and a person I consider my second mother Christina Hiller. Their love, support, and encouragement is seemingly endless and I wouldn’t be here without them.
