We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisha Wilkes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aisha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Entrepreneurship and side hustles run in my family. My father worked as a DJ while also holding a sales manager position. My grandfather kept busy collecting and recycling cardboard, doing work for the church, and providing cleaning services for an office building after he retired. To find a creative outlet from my daily Public Health job, I ventured into event planning and eventually started my own photobooth rental business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started this business to break away from my regular 9 to 5 job as a Scientist in Public Health. At first, I planned to organize a pop-up shop for a friend and her fellow creators. However, my husband suggested adding photobooth rental to the business, which became the company’s main driver. Although I faced challenges in getting up to speed with the industry, learning new technology and software, and balancing career, business, and family life, I overcame them by studying and researching, networking, trial and error, and contracting with other experts for critical tasks. Today, I take pride in how we’ve grown and how many people trust us to repeatedly provide photobooth rentals for their corporate events and special occasions. This shows that people have a great experience renting a booth from us and know they can count on us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being born and raised here, my best friends live or have lived here, which takes some pressure off. Smile! From the iconic tourist hotspots like the Georgia Aquarium and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights to the stunning views from the top of the Ferris Wheel and the Sundial, we will be living our best lives downtown. But that’s not all – we’ll take it to the next level by exploring Midtown, where we can soak up some culture at the High Museum and Piedmont Park, indulge in some seriously delicious food, and shop at Ponce City Market. And let’s not forget about Buckhead, where we’ll be hitting up all the coolest spots like Lenox, Phipps, Buttermilk Kitchen, and King + Duke. And last but not least, we’ll head over to Cobb to catch a game at the Battery, feast on some amazing seafood at Fish Thyme, and shop until we drop at the outlet mall in Woodstock. With so many incredible experiences to choose from, the only problem we’ll have is deciding where to go first!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course! I want to acknowledge the people who have been instrumental in the success of my business. My husband, Andre, has been an invaluable partner. While I handle the day-to-day tasks, he provides on-site support and helps with problem-solving. I am also grateful to my friend and former colleague, Cynthia, who encouraged me to pursue my passion for event planning. She was the inspiration behind starting my own business.

Additionally, I want to thank my family and friends, who were some of our first clients. Their trust in our services helped us gain exposure and establish our brand. Finally, I appreciate our repeat clients and those who refer us to others. Their support and loyalty have been crucial to our growth and success.
