We had the good fortune of connecting with Mr. C Roblesz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mr. C, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am the 2%. I am a African American/Latino Male educator, with a certification in Math education, Reading, ESOL and Special Education, and hold a provisional administrative license. Before I reached this level of success I was a minority underperforming student from Brooklyn. I had resources and happened to attend a “good” school. My mother worked a demanding job and for many hours out of the night my brothers and I were left alone, in the Bedford Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, NY. Even as a student of a “good school” I was labeled “at risk”. Similar to many of my peers I struggled to grasp coursework material and connect socially with other students. The combination of these experiences helps me to understand first hand how educational inequality affects scholars. I understand the frustration parents feel when they cannot help their scholars, and I understand how education can level the playing field.
My my life’s mission and purpose to pay it forward.I have never thought of doing anything other than helping young people achieve. All of this makes me overqualified to lead such a program. I genuinely love mathematics and love the lightbulb moment when scholars who once hated math now raise their hand eager to answer questions or teach their peers. I also encourage collaborative teaching approaches and cross subject lesson planning, presents opportunities for transferable skills and connections.
For so long America blocked the education of black and brown people, hoping they would not learn, understanding that people are destroyed by a lack of knowledge. Yet, a brave and strong- willed group of people fought for the right of all to learn and pioneered the idea of educational equality. Today, I stand in the shadow of these people. It is my honor to spend my life working to ensure that all scholars have the opportunity to acquire knowledge, excel in education, and build the foundations of true equality.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Math N More’s purpose is to innovatively provide equitable access to STEM for underrepresented scholars through one-on-one mathematics instruction. Founded in 2020 during a national pandemic Math N More’s sole purpose is to support scholars achieving mathematics mastery. According to Curriculum Associate 67% of scholars in disadvantaged socioeconomic areas were feeling some sort of anxiety towards math and there would be a half to a full year of math lost due to the pandemic. This would adversely widen the access to possible STEAM career jobs of black and brown scholars.
