Meet Jazz Thorpe | Summer Daze Owner | Graduate Student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazz Thorpe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazz, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My name is Jazz Thorpe. I own Summer Daze Beauty Brand. Summer Daze is a handmade, organic skincare brand that stands behind supporting and promoting using natural products in skincare to all people.

When thinking about my work-life balance, I realize most times that I am an extremely busy woman. Not only am I a full time business owner and the only employee of Summer Daze, I am also a full time graduate student, obtaining a Masters of Public Health. On top of that, I work a full-time job . A lot of people tend to ask me “how do I do it?”, well the answer to that question may seem as if it should be complex but it’s simple. Time-management. Overtime, I’ve learned how to plan my days of the week. I work Monday-Thursday until 5 pm. Monday and Wednesday evenings are dedicated to doing school work. Tuesday and Thursday evenings are dedicated to relaxing. The weekends are set for planning Summer Daze’s next moves and making orders to ship out to our wonderful customers.

When I think about my balance between life and work, I don’t look at my schedule as something that exhausts me or is just entirely too much. Don’t get me wrong, some days I am more tired than others. However, I understand that this time is for me to dive into my passion. My life is busy because I’m not ready to settle. I’m using everything I have in me now to become the person I’ve dreamt of for many years. I have a clear understanding that success takes pure grind and sacrifices.
With that mindset, I feel like I am prepared everyday to tackle my work-life balance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m just getting started. Right now, I’m working on building a multi-million dollar beauty brand that serves all ages, genders, and ethnicity. I am most proud of my self for staying consistent in the process.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m from Macon, Ga. So when I decide to take a trip to the city, I’m diving into all of my favorite spots in the city. Catch me getting lunch at Big Dave’s, got to get the Philly water ice. Then, I’m heading over to Atlantic Station or Cumberland Mall to get a little shopping done. If I’m going out, I really don’t have a preference, I’m a fan of many of the lounges. Next trip to the city, I want to check out Atlantis, I heard that’s the new spot.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my success to my mom, Juanita. Without her, I wouldn’t have the mindset that I have now. She instilled in me at a young age to be a grinder. She’s always told me that hard work and consistency would be my way out. Through out this whole process of being a student and becoming a business owner she has been very supportive. I can’t help but be grateful for her.
