We had the good fortune of connecting with Latoya Whitfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latoya, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Budgeting with Whit, LLC started with passion and love. Our goal is to create generational wealth by helping others truly believe that it can happen for them. The business started as a Facebook group that helped individuals become aware of the many resources that could improve their overall financial health. It was filled with daily tips and testimonials that motivated others to succeed financially. By using a unique approach, Budgeting with Whit grew quickly. Clients viewed our brand as being a non judgmental company that transforms their mindset into a financial success. Our goal is and will always be to inspire others to believe beyond what they could have ever imagined for their financial future.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I grew up in a poverty household where wealth building was never a topic of conversation. I realized that the mindset of my family did not allow me to think further than their experience. After college, I started my career in banking. I met many people who knew nothing about a checking account, budgeting, saving, or credit. Sadly, I realized that the community lacked key financial education—money management. This intrigued the idea to start Budgeting with Whit more than ever.

Our intimate and non- judgmental approach has attracted many clients that have never worked with a financial coach. As a result, this has allowed the company to stand out beyond our competitors. We have been able to help 30 families increase credit scores, build savings, eliminate debt, and purchase homes in the first 8 months of doing business with Budgeting with Whit. In 2020, our first year of business, we helped clients pay off a combined total of 25K and save 30K. Through community outreach and partnership opportunities, we plan to impact the black community by providing them with the necessary tools improve financial health.

One of the best pieces of advice that I can extend is to make sure that you truly love what you do. Running a business can become expensive. When the business is not your passion, it may be easy to just give up. As my business expanded, I noticed that it was important that I not only help my community, but become profitable as well. This led me to hire a business coach to take the company to the next level. This was the best thing that could have every happened with Budgeting with Whit. We stopped taking new clients for about three months to develop new strategies. As a result, we retained our current clients and gained new clientele through word of mouth.

Our vision with Budgeting with Whit is to help increase people’s financial education so that they can be successful and live a better life. We believe that mindset is crucial to growth. The testimonials of our clients, continues to let us know that we are making a huge impact that will continue to impact generations to come

I recently had a 7 Day intense “Financial Bootcamp.” It covered money mindset, budgeting, saving, credit, and overall wealth building. This is something that literally changed lives and so many people walked away feeling knowledgeable. My goal was to ensure that individuals left empowered and ready to take action! I was impressed to know that individuals had already made changes. I am thrilled to now offer my one-on-one program and other services/webinars that can be beneficial to my clients and future clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Although I have not visited, I would take my friend to Tyler Perry Studios. He has given back so much to the community, so I would love for us to meet him together. Afterwards, I would like to take our family to the Georgia Aquarium to watch the dolphins. They are so interesting to watch but you can’t sit to close or you will get soaked. Lastly, I would want to take my friend to Slutty Vegan. It is our goal to eat healthier so finding fun ways to cook veggies is always fun!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my aunt Louise Brown. I always looked at her as an example of how I would make it. We both grew up in a poverty household so I knew she understood. She became a teacher, principal, motivational speaker, mentor, and so much more. Many times we seek mentors elsewhere, but I had the privilege of having my very own aunt as one. She motivated and encouraged me. She believed in me and and has always told me that I was a ‘go getter.’ I dedicate my success to her because she helped me believe that my life was so much bigger than my current situation. She taught me the meaning of being a righteous woman and to always trust God.
