We had the good fortune of connecting with Myriah Sparks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myriah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I just went for it. It sounds cliché, but I overthink a lot. So if I waited until all my thoughts were perfect and aligned, I would have kept finding reasons to not do it. It actually started with me being inspired by a Paris trip I took at the end of 2018 and my friends pushing me that propelled me into launching The Closet Whisperer. Once I launched, I figured things out as I went. I had the benefit of this not being my full-time job, so I treated it as a side-hustle. I learn by doing, so it is still trial and error. Likewise, I have found my niche and what my audience needs and wants, so it makes it easier to create content to meet that need.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Closet Whisperer provides a stress-free shopping concierge service, so my clients can look their personal best. As your personal style consultant, I will apply my shopping skills and style coordination to bring your look to life. My purpose is to inspire my clients to look and feel the way they want to feel while shopping effectively to match their lifestyle. The fashion influencer segment is a saturated market, but what sets me apart is my relatability and personality. I am constantly told that I help women find flattering looks for a different body type than what you normally see in mainstream media. I help women feel confident regardless of what size they are while showing them affordable options to maximize their wardrobe. It definitely isn’t easy especially since this is not my full-time job, and I’m not getting paid (yet) a ton to do it, so I had to be motivated by my passion. This has led to a few paid partnerships, and I am looking forward to more and bigger deals. Consistency is the biggest hurdle for me as I am growing my platform presence. I overcame inconsistency by getting intentional about my posting schedule and creating a schedule for creating content. This led to a couple of viral videos which have immensely helped to grow my audience. I want the world to know, it is okay to not have a perfect plan for your business, but just know you are not alone anytime you doubt your business or question why you are even doing it. Just don’t give up; even it slows, don’t give up! My story is still developing, but I am happy with the growth I have seen and can’t wait to see what else is in store.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will always start with giving kudos to God first! He continues to amaze me even when I don’t deserve it. Next, I will shout-out my mom, sister, and best friends who literally have been telling me for YEARS to do something with my love for clothes and fashion. I am glad I finally listened. Shoutout to all the supporters who have joined me on this journey. I am still growing, but you all keep me motivated to keep going and creating content for you!
