Meet Courtney Lynn | Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Lynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Coming in to my profession I thought I needed to have an incredibly professional front. Essentially- not be myself. But in years to come, I learned that being myself is what draws people in. Showing who I am as a human as well as the photos I take is one of the most important and life changing things I did. People want to know the person behind the camera. They like to know you’re an animal lover, that you have a life, that reading is a hobby for you. It helps them connect to you in ways that being overtly professional doesn’t allow. That’s the great thing about being a photographer- you have a bit of leeway when it comes to professional standpoints. You’re allowed to assert yourself and who you are into your work, your profession. It’s made my job so much easier as well. NEVER hesitate to be the silly fun human being that you are.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m not sure exactly what sets me apart from everyone else, I try not to focus too closely on others. Doing so can create the feeling of not being enough. What’s the saying? Comparison is the thief of joy. It’s true! As mentioned, I do put who I am as a person into my profession. I’m extremely clear about who I am, what I’ll provide and how silly I am. I’m also 100% inclusive AF. All are welcome and incredibly loved. Getting to where I am, it was a battle. It’s still a battle. There’s always room to grow. Always room to be better, try something new. There are so many lessons I’ve learned in being a photographer. Customer service is HARD. People can be truly mean to you. And sometimes the more you bend over backwards- the less it helps. It’s okay to say NO. You are HUMAN first and foremost. What do I want the world to know about me? I want to show everyone they’re deserving of love. That I am that person who will go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable, included, loved, and always needed. You matter. Your life matters. Who you love matters. I will, and always will be, inclusive. I am an ally. I will always be one. I don’t tolerate discrimination. Everyone feels, and I plan on making sure that no one feels not included.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Gosh, there are so many amazing places to visit in Georgia honestly! Waterfalls, we have so many- please visit them! Tallulah Gorge (lots of stairs though omg), cloudland canyon, (so. Many. Stairs.) good- Atlanta has some of the most eclectic varieties of food. Breweries. Atlanta Beltline. Ponce City Market, Krog Street. I literally have a list of food places I have yet to try! The coca-cola factory is fun! The aquarium is one of my favorite places. Miss Mary macs has amazing southern comfort food. In Athens you can find some incredible Jamaican food. I literally could go on and on and on!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really wouldn’t have been able to push through without the support of my husband, Ryan. And my family. When I didn’t believe in myself- they did. And I’d be a horrible person if I didn’t mention my dogs. When I was down- they demanded love and that immediately made me feel better.
