We had the good fortune of connecting with Taliah Ayers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taliah, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
Conventional Advice: You shouldn’t have to teach anyone how to love you. I really hate this piece of advice. Truly. The idea behind this advice is that people should be able to tell what you need in a relationship. The thought that someone should be able to read your mind or the way you need love is common sense, is completely false and dangerously inaccurate. I’ve been working with couples for a few years now and have witnessed people who grew up not apologizing, not giving hugs, and even not saying thank you. There are billions of people on this Earth living their own experience, creating their own needs and expectations. What you need to feel loved and understood is going to be different from your partner. Don’t fall into the trap of trying to find that one person in the world who will know exactly how to make you feel loved, or you’ll forever be lonely. (Caveat: if you are telling them and they aren’t responding, move on) In order for your partner to learn what gets you going, you have to teach them. How? Well, I am a huge believer in Love Languages and filling your partner’s love tank. Take the quiz for yourself and your partner to see how you need to feel loved and how you can love them (words of affirmation, receiving gifts, physical touch, quality time, acts of service).

What should our readers know about your business?
Better Together 365 was created to bring relationship aide to everyone, not just those who can get there or afford it. Accessibility is the core of everything I do. After 2020, everyone began incorporating an online component, but that was something I always utilized. What continues to set me apart are the sessions I have at my clients’ homes! I’m talking comfy, on the couch, in your robe, with your dog sniffing my feet. It makes things so much more relaxed when you’re talking about real life issues in your own space. I also have non-conventional hours with my latest sessions being 8:30pm. For all businesses, I think the biggest hurdle is getting people to believe what you’re selling, especially for us entrepreneurs who don’t have a physical product. I have to prove that I know what I’m talking about. Add in the stigma surrounding mental health and you have a hot mess to sort through. Premarital counseling is one of those things that everyone thinks is important, but no one thinks they need it! More so the men than the women. I mostly get couples that say the bride stated it as a non-negotiable so the men came kicking and screaming. By the end, the guys are singing my praises, for sure. We’re not digging up problems. We are finding ways to create solutions for the future and building a toolkit, if you will. I want the world to know that great relationship help doesn’t have to cost you your life savings and I doesn’t have to be inconvenient.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is an incredible city! There are so many places to visit and experience (I haven’t done all of them!) so I guess these are some of my top spots: Eat and drink: – Randevoo Lounge is a new spot that opened up. The food is amazing (make sure you try the crab cakes), there is hookah, wonderful drinks, and just an overall great vibe. – Hattie B’s would definitely be a lunch spot. Grabbing some food and sitting outside. Getting their chicken, of course – Drinks at Bar Vegan is a must (for the culture) – Get some King of Pops popsicles during that stroll in Piedmont Park – Getting some of the best wings in the city at Dat Fire Jerk Chicken on Northside – Flying Biscuit for breakfast one day – Obviously Waffle House for breakfast on another day… and possibly the day after that – Thumbs up Diner is another great breakfast spot – We have to do brunch at Fin and Feathers To do: – strolling around Atlantic Station is always nice if you’re looking to spend some money. They usually have some type of exhibit like In the Dark or The Bodies Museum. – Piedmont park is always a good go to for an early morning stroll before the crazy Georgia heat really kicks – If you’re feeling a little touristy, you can do the World of Coke and the Ga Aquarium. – Grab a spot for the Trap Museum (for the culture) – The Black Hair Experience is here right now, so going to get some Instagram worthy photos there – High Museum and The National Center for Civil Human Rights are definitely on the to do list – Starlight Drive-in would be a great way to round out a chill night That might be all we can fit in a week without completely overwhelming. There is so much more to do in this diverse city!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am shouting out my small business posse! I have a small group of friends who all have businesses, part time or full time, that are growing and are actually good. The content is good, the customer service is good, the quality of the product is good. There is so much to learn on the business side of things and I couldn’t do it without them (Janai @shopsocietyone, Rodnika @fluttermegorgeousss, Angela @dulaneycreative @angelasharnice). As a mother, I lean heavily on my husband and our family as they watch our sons so I can live out my dreams. I would be nothing without my faith and my tribe.
