We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Sloane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Being nice to people and asking for what I want. I have found consistently these two things have gotten us where we are today. We will always be nice and try and help, and never shame a customer for not knowing something. We also try very hard to play nicely with our competitors because a rising tide lifts all boats. Asking for what you want – something that seems simple – is something a lot of people don’t do either! Just ask, the worst that happens is you get no for an answer.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think the biggest thing that sets us apart is it’s not about the money. Sure, we all want to be rich, but that cannot be what drives you. It often times leads you to make poor decisions. Since the beginning of this venture, my true passion was making sure first responders had technology that would help them do their jobs more effectively, and help increase the likelihood that they would go home safely to their families. If you use that as your guiding light — not how much money is coming in — you’ll always be successful. I have learned that some weeks are harder than others, and as some wise businessperson once said “entrepreneurs are the only group of people who will work 100 hours so they don’t have to work 40 hours” is so true! But if you’re doing what you love, for a cause you truly believe it, it doesn’t (often) seem like work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve spent most of my time in Atlanta on the East side — first at Emory, then in Decatur, so that’s what I know. I also spent 14 years working at CNN, so of course, the CNN tour is high on my list! I also love eating at Superrica at Krog Street Market, and Fred’s Meat and Breads’ cheesesteaks are out of this world. (and I grew up in Philly, so I’m qualified to make that assessment). I like bars and restaurants over clubs, so the Highlands and some of the new places along the Beltline are my favorities.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Several people, but first and foremost, my three business partners. We were all friends first, and so I know they have my best interest in mind when giving advice. Contracts come and go, customers come and go… Even businesses come and go, but working with my friends everyday has been a huge support network. We also have a few great investors who are always happy to lend their experience; and of course, my family. I wouldn’t have left my fulltime job if I didn’t have the support of my wife, and now that I have kids, having them excited about what I’m doing keeps me going.
