We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelly Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelly, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor about the success of my brand is passion. Whatever you decide to accomplish in life there should be an unconditional passion behind it. If you don’t love what you do then what you do will always feel like a job. That’s why you have those entrepreneurs who start and stop companies, some give up before they begin to really enjoy the fruits of their labor because trusting the process is uncertain at times. When in reality it’s not the process that you don’t trust it’s your own personal self that you truly don’t trust. I live by the motto “What you want….actually wants you too”. Your thoughts guide you daily. Train your thoughts and convert your mind to positive affirmations. Passion works hand in hand with your thoughts Its a positive automatic reinforcer of commitment, prosperity and abundance in your life. Passion won’t let you quit.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started hosting with a Samsung cell phone and a pair of heads phones. I was interviewing celebrities with earphones. I didn’t have all the bells and whistles but what I did/do possess is personality. I have a knack for people in general. I’m so interested in The Who what when and why….everybody’s story is uniquely different but yet the story line is the same. It’s just like watching Cinderella and realizing most movie blueprints are created from Cinderella. Different plot same message in the end. I think that’s truly what sets me apart from other people. I have a natural gift and talent where I truly connect sincerely with people. I also management an actress which is a new sector to my business. What I’m most excited about with this sector is that I am helping someone build their brand from the ground up. I truly believe everyone has to do something in life at some point that’s solely meant to help someone besides you to elevate. Running my company is challenging at time because I’m juggling not only my career but someone else’s. So I am no longer just in this for me. I have to advocate, research, network, pull strings and sometimes create opportunities from the ground up to keep my career and those that I manage in heavy rotation. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is to not take the “No’s” personally. Anything worth having your gonna have to fight for. Another lesson I’ve learned is you have to create an emergency plan for your business just like how you do your home. This plan should be recession proof. I always think ahead about my restructure plan and how I could still run my company during Covid or any crisis.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man my favorite spots in Atlanta to take a visitor if it was a week long trip in Atlanta would be for starters Cafe Intermezzo they serve breakfast and lunch and dinner items with a cool open setting area on the outside near the street. I’d take them walking on the belt line and the multiple scenic sights in Atlanta such as The Jackson St. Bridge, Krog St., The Westin Peachtree Plaza Elevator ride which is 72 floors up to the Sundail, I’d take them to little 5 points to satisfy there eccentric side. There’s so much cool stuff in little five points including “Crystal Blue” in which is a Metaphysical supply store. I’m big on the healing effects of stones and crystals. There’s so much I’d do We’d take a stroll in Centennial Park, Go to The Georgia aquarium, the High Museum, Martin Luther Kings family home, six flags, The trap music museum. For dinner besides a home cooked meal I’d take them 2 my absolutely favorite diner establishments Cafe Intermezzo and Seasons 52. Seasons has a pan seared salmon and marble potatoes dish that will change your life okay!! I’d finish the night with my absolutely favorite duck out…. Club Bolts on Gresham Road. It’s an old skool club thats 25 and up they play early 90s and 2000 music which has everyone dancing. I love to dance and the people around me love it too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
While I have multiple close friends that I respect and that I’d love to shout out. In all fairness I have to go back and start from the onset of my entrepreneur journey. My mentor Leatha Currington is the first person to planted seeds in me when I came up with my first business idea. She was relentless with helping me create structure within my company and she counseled me when I didn’t quit believe in my full potential. I became stronger mentally and more wiser and knowledgeable about business and how to deal with certain situations as an entrepreneur. She’s definitely my human Google. I don’t have to go far for guidance. Given the consultation that she’s given me if I were paying for it I’d be paying her forever. Free game is what she gives to me and I’m so thankful to have her apart of my tribe. I mean when I think about the true essence of black girl magic when I think about the blessing of having a friend that pours into me effortlessly without condition. That’s Leatha a true nurturing queen that I thank God everyday for.
