We had the good fortune of connecting with Chef Q Buggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chef Q, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking…going all in. Not knowing if everything you’ve just invested will provide a return. I’ve done that a few times. I know I’ll do it a few times more. I have to constantly create. Creativity takes time and money. So far…so good.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Covid has brought me where I am today. With all the social distancing, people were still in dire need of food, drinks, socializing, romance, music, and the fine dinning experience. So I was hired for my first “personal chef” experience. Almost everyday I was out cooking in someone’s else home or hotel room. I love it. I want to do it everyday. I’m working on that. The most important lesson I’ve learned or continue to learn is the importance of customer service. 95% of my clients have all came via referrals and word of mouth. Even this article, us speaking, if my customer service was bad I’m sure I wouldn’t have the referral rate I have now. I wouldn’t have anything. It makes or breaks you, your brand. It took me years to get here and build my brand. I’ve been in the industry since 2006. It only takes one second to destroy that. It takes a long time to build something, but a short time to destroy it. I don’t want the world to know anything else until I reveal it. That’s another lesson I’ve learned, “hurry up and shut up.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d probably go to The Painted Duck, Top Golf, or The Roof at Ponce City Market. I love to play games. We can walk through Krog street Market (Tyler Perry’s first Studio), hit the Beltline and EAV or Little 5 Points if we wanted to be outside. Maybe learn about the culture of Atlanta, Visit MLK Site, maybe even help build a house with Habitat for Humanity or visit the Food bank. I don’t go out to eat much. So I’ll cook. 😉
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
City Of Refuge. Chef D and Chef Alex. That’s where it all started. Taking Instruction…being a student. Giving Instructions…being a teacher. …all while supplying fuel and love to the homeless and less the fortunate community with our food. The rest is history.
