We had the good fortune of connecting with Latasha N Grant, CFSP and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latasha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew I was gifted in the art of embalming I am in love with what I do, I knew I had a great reputation in the Funeral Service Industry and I knew that funeral homes needed a good embalming service that would be dedicated, caring and professional.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Licensed funeral Director and Embalmer. I own and operate Divine Grace Embalming Service where I service funeral homes in the Metro Atlanta area. What sets me apart is that I am one of the few female embalmers in the area, I also teach Embalming at my Alma Mater (Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science). I have a non-profit organization (Girls are Morticians Too) that offers a scholarship to female mortuary students. I am most proud when a family I have served is so pleased with their loved one that they can’t even cry in sadness. I am also very proud of how far I have come. When I started Mortuary School I was in the midst of a Divorce and struggling to make ends meet and take care of four children on my own, now I make in one hour what I used to make in one full eight hour day. I am able to save and live comfortably and it feels amazing!

It’s never easy for a woman in the Funeral Industry. I had to push my way through, I got a lot of “no you can’t do that” and “she wants to do what?” along with laughs and bickers but I didn’t give up and it paid off. In February 2018 I took a leap of faith, quit my exhausting stressful job and started my Embalming Service, it was the best thing I could have ever done for my life. I’ve learned that not everyone is in my corner, not everyone is happy for me and that as great a personality that I have, not everyone likes me lol …in spite of it all there is so much more positive. I love the families I help. I want the world to know that I am here for them at a time when they are most vulnerable. I treat everyone as if they are my own family member when they are in my care and I stand by that one hundred percent.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the water…I live in Fayetteville so we would definitely hit Franks Old Mill. I’m really a homebody and I live on a lake so I am on my patio most days when I’m not working. I also like Canoe and a spot called McKinnon’s its a Piano bar in Buckhead. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my two very loyal apprentices Sharmin McMiller and Malik Clark who have been with me from day one. I’d also like to shout out my amazing clients and fellow Funeral Directors, Darrell E. Watkins I of Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home in Carrollton, GA, Dana and Shannon Lemon of WD Lemon & Sons Funeral Home in McDonough, GA along with Eddie Dressler and David Boring of Fischer Funeral Care in Atlanta, GA they support and stand behind my business. Lastly I need to shout out to my children Omar, Ryann, Laayla and Chaayse the most understanding kids a single mom could have. They realize my God given calling to this ministry and I am forever grateful to them.
