We had the good fortune of connecting with Cliff Bramble and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cliff, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought that has always gone into starting my business is knowing that I can do it. Having the self-confidence, determination and a high motivation level is a major factor in getting any business started. Planning is also a major part of starting the business. Proper planning, along with following set steps will assist in getting any business off the ground.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hungry Hospitality is a restaurant and business consulting firm. We help restaurants, business start-ups, and the hospitality industry solve many challenges, including finance, systems, start-up, human resources, and operations. We also assist individual real estate investors with investment opportunities. What sets us apart from others, especially in the restaurant and real estate industry, is that clients learn from a forty-year veteran in restaurants and business. The Georgia Restaurant Association has also recognized Cliff as a Restaurateur of the Year. Previously, I co-founded and operated some of the top restaurants in Georgia and the United States. They included Rathbun’s & Kevin Rathbun Steak. I also previously co-founded Krog Bar and KR SteakBar, as well as owning Noble Fin restaurant. Our clients get the best advice and can save thousands of dollars with our experience. How I got to be where I am today has been through lots of hard work and a focus for success. Working forty hours was never a regular thing for me. It was always 80-100 hours and working towards the goals of success. Success only comes after many failures but learning from those failures set me up for success. Many people do not know that at one time in my 20’s is that I could not walk, and I only had a rocking chair to my name. I overcame those challenges by positive thinking and knowing I could overcome the obstacles I was going through. I never gave up my vision and goals of success. The mind can help or hurt you. By thinking positive, the mind will always help you. One of the lessons that I learned along the way is sometimes to get something done, you have to do it yourself. Hiring people with passion and dedication is always an essential aspect of being successful. Others should know about Hungry Hospitality because it is owned by a dedicated and passionate individual willing to do whatever it takes to make you successful. Some of my clients did not want to hear what needed to be done, but they listened and successfully achieved their goals. I have a new book coming out called Planning for Profit, and it is one year of business consulting in a four-hour read. The information within the book has been taken from my many years in business. It can help restaurants and any type of business learn how to make more money in life. It will be on Amazon in June.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting from out of town, I would take them on a tour of Atlanta. I would start in Buckhead and take them to Pricci since I love Italian, and then to Aria for desserts and then to the St. Regis Lounge for after dinner drinks. I would drive down West Paces Ferry Road and show them the big houses. From there, I would head down to the West Side and stop into Barcelona and have a drink or two there before heading to the Optimist Oyster Bar for oysters. The next day we would go to Inman Park and show them the area and what it has developed into and take a quick walk on the Beltline. I would stop into Riccardo Ulio’s Fritti and have a casual pizza and then go to Char for drinks. After that, I would head down to Ponce City Market and take them through that area and grab a drink at the roof top restaurant called 9 Mile Station. It has a great downtown view. Other areas I would take them to would be through Virginia Highlands and stop at Murphy’s which has been there for years and is always a great place and on the way home, I would call Scott Strumlauf from Tongue and Groove and tell him I was bringing in some friends. If it was a nice day, I would stop into Avalon and walk around the stores there and then have lunch at Rumi’s kitchen and order one of their saffron rice dishes and Chicken Barg. For the coffee, I would head over to Cafe Intermezzo which is also in Avalon. On the last day, I would have to take them to a steakhouse and I would opt for Arnettes in Brookhaven since it is closer to my house, but Chops would be the second if I was in the Buckhead area. Before I would go to Arnettes though, I would stop in to see Joey at Kaleidascope for drinks at his bar. It’s also in Brookhaven. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my wife, children, and my Mother. For my wife, she sacrificed many events and evenings for the good of starting businesses throughout the years. She listened and helped with advice over and over. She also had the opportunity to bring our kids up, and be there for them whenever I could not, or had to work until three in the morning. My kids understood the reason why I was not there for dinners or missed family vacations. For my Mother, she taught me the value of hard work and dedication. As a kid, I was taught that hard work will always get you ahead in life and she promoted the fact that “nothing in life is free.”
