We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Duff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, how do you think about risk?
I would say risk is a big factor in my business as it was essentially started by taking a huge risk. I quit my job one day and then filed for an LLC the very next day. I didn’t really have a plan in place, but I felt strongly in leaving a toxic environment and believed that what I was doing in my corporate job could be pursued on my own. So that’s what I did. Following that, I take a great number of small risks by reaching out to new clients and trying to find new business through cold-contact. A lot of times my pursuits go unanswered and that can take a toll over time when I don’t hear back, but the risks pay off when someone says yes!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
S. Duff Media is a corner for all things creative, not just in the small business space but also on a corporate level as well. My corporate experience before starting my business has helped me stand out in a pretty saturated field of marketing and design because I can approach projects with a creative perspective while also knowing how it’ll ultimately translate as far as business purposes go. I can guide my clients with their decisions and push back if something will not benefit them in the long run rather than just executing an idea they may have. I also have a background in illustration and design that allows me to really elevate their ideas and create something special and different. I don’t take a cookie cutter approach and make sure that each client and business I work with gets a truly unique experience tailored to their needs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In a pre-Covid world, spending time in my city was my favorite thing to do. I’ve made it a point to explore and check out new areas and restaurants and would be sure to take any friends along for the same experience. The best part of Atlanta is that you can spend a day in each neighborhood and get a totally different experience, so we’d hop around each day from neighborhood to neighborhood, from Decatur to Old Fourth Ward and East Atlanta Village. I feel like Atlanta is severely underrated as a food mecca, especially Buford Highway, so for any visiting friends, we’d basically spend the time going on a food and drink tour around the city! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to shout out my husband who has been relentless in his support of me and my business endeavors. He’s my biggest fan and greatest supporter and encourages me, even when I get distracted by new, shiny business ideas. I don’t think I would have fully been able to jump head first into starting my own business 5 years ago had he not given me the unwavering support he still offers today.
