Meet Katie Lynn + Laura Grace Sears: Co-founders of a Creative Agency

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Lynn + Laura Grace Sears and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie Lynn + Laura Grace, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We both started jobs after college. They didn’t last long because we were getting paid too little and we weren’t being given the creative opportunities we wanted. We were lucky to be surrounded by women who were starting businesses who put the idea into our heads. Starting a business was a huge commitment and a risk, but we loved the idea of having creative freedom, being able to choose who we worked with and even just making our own rules for work culture. Now if we work overtime, it’s because we choose to. Finally, one of the more important factors in deciding to start a business for us was that we got to work creatively together and that we weren’t starting a business alone.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Laura Grace: I capture photography for commercial brands and small businesses.

Katie Lynn: I design modern and unique brands as well as custom-coded Squarespace websites.

LG: We like to bring our mediums together as often as possible to create cohesive and strategic visuals for businesses.

KL: We just started making things. We’ve done creative things together all our live, but with branding and photography we kind of jumped in with both feet. We relied on mentors and YouTube University to improve our work and build our business. We were really young when we started our business. We were 22 years old. That felt like a challenge but we had so many amazing women who trusted us despite our age and encouraged us to be confident in our abilities over a number. Our brand and photo work is really modern and artistic. We are constantly looking for bigger and bolder projects. If you’re even thinking about reaching out to us…just do it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We LOVE Papi’s Cuban & Caribbean Grill on Ponce. Get an order of empanadas, Yuka fries, and the medianoche sandwich to share with a friend. You can order for pickup! Our neighborhood wine store is VinoTeca in Inman Park. The owners are lovely and their recommendations are ON POINT. The Lola Womxn’s Club is our local business hangout. The community they’ve built is supportive, thriving, and fun. If you haven’t been to Ponce City Market in a while, take a walk upstairs to a newer addition Bombchel. It’s a vibrant explosion of West African fabrics and Kamala Harris coffee mugs. Go get yourself a new mask and support an amazing local business. Kudzu Antiques + Modern is the vintage furniture store you didn’t know you needed. Pop by before heading to Dekalb Farmers’ Market. You won’t regret it. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others.
